5 The Briar Society Charter & Code of Conduct The_Well:Charter We, as conscious individuals of magimystic ability, inclination, or interest, gather in our unified purpose to strive for the scholarly exploration and preservation of the magicentric and mysticentric orders. With this agreement, we allow our Society of Briars to formally root under the adumbral auspices of our clandestine convention. Purpose This assemblage, and all of its prior and successive iterations, subsidiary branches, ancillary offshoots, dendritic adjuncts, and administrative or executive appendages (corporeal or otherwise), have and shall ever represent the sincere efforts of this Society to pursue the illumination of truths and a shared interest in that which would be obscured. The success of our endeavors is dependent on the continued adherence to our code of conduct, outlined below. Code of Conduct Sustained participation within this Society requires that all Briars should conduct themselves in accordance with the codes of highest moral and magimystic honor. The Briar Society expects from all associated individuals: Civil and respectful behavior to each affiliated magimyst regardless of standing, be they an aspirant, tenured elder, or mildly curious voyeur. Absolute discretion regarding the sharing of acquired magimystic knowledge and the distribution of sensitive materials, which may only be revealed to allied magimystic assemblages upon the full accordance of the chapter. As practicing magimysts or those allied with the cause and charter of the Society, we acknowledge the potential for risk and reward that our magimystical pursuits may reap, and as such, will take great care and all necessary precautions to assure the safety of ourselves and our fellow Briars. Understanding and acceding that through our exploration, study, and practice, we work toward the betterment of ourselves, the betterment of this and other worlds, and the betterment of all the inhabitants contained therein and thereout. Should a Briar be found in conflict with one or more of the above requisites, that Briar will no longer have access to magimystic, academic, or exploratory benefits provided by the Briar Society and its functionary branches. Oath With this oath, I bind my heart to the noble idea of scholarly excellence and the shared purpose and fellowship that is hereby known as The Briar Society. Upon my acceptance, I am bound to uphold the expectations of conduct and hold aloft the triumphs and travails of my Society above all individual magimystic endeavors. With my signature, I also accept that I shall face the burdens of dismissal and disbelief, agreeing to be rendered dubious should I ever attempt to divulge the secrets of my Society to those beyond its bounds. The charter, code of conduct, and oath are subject to addition and adaptation with each subsequent generation of the Briar Society. “And let the magic begin,” wrote Belladonna, attaching her signature. One by one, the rest of the Mountaineers followed suit, and in doing so, bound their names and hearts to a shared purpose. The newest branch of the Briar Society was officially instated, and the Mountaineers chosen for this purpose were now also “Briars.” The W.E.L.L.’s next document offered a glimpse of what the next steps would look like for a new recruit of the original Briar Society, addressed again to the same “Mister Carew” of the initial invitation.
