Chapter 6: I Want Something from You

1448 Words
If Su Qianqian were just an ordinary person, Wen Yan would only need to focus on collecting evidence. But Su Qianqian was the only daughter of the Su family. Su Corporation’s businesses spanned the entire country, matching the Gu Corporation in strength, reputation, and influence. Wen Yan once believed Su Qianqian was as innocent and kind as the rumors said—she never imagined her methods could be this ruthless. In an era of peace, she dared to play with human lives so easily. Thinking about her grandmother’s mysterious death, a chill crept from the soles of her feet to the top of her head, and her eyes turned red with emotion. Seeing her so upset, Xie Yiye felt distressed as well. If Wen Yan was truly his sister, then she had suffered far too much over the years. With that thought, his voice softened: “You can start by telling me what you want.” Wen Yan opened her mouth, suppressing the hatred in her heart. “I want her to face legal punishment. A life for a life.” Xie Yiye nodded, unsurprised. “To bring Su Qianqian down, we have to uproot the entire Su family tree.” The Su family was powerful and wealthy. Even if Su Qianqian was sent to prison, the Su family would find a way to reduce her sentence. “Recently, my family has been working on a partnership with the Su Corporation. If it goes through, the Su family won’t need to worry about revenue for the next three years. How about I help you ruin that deal?” He crossed his arms and leaned lazily against a nearby tree, gazing at her with a playful glint in his eye. “And what can I do for you in return, Young Master Xie?” With an offer that generous, she knew he’d want something in return. “I want something from you,” he said, eyes fixed on the back of her head. “Your hair tie.” What kind of request was that? Wen Yan was briefly stunned, and in that moment, Xie Yiye already moved. His actions were swift. She only felt a tug on her scalp before the hair tie was taken. Holding it up to the light, his charming peach-blossom eyes curved slightly upward. His exquisite features were more striking than those of any celebrity—yet they had a wild edge, dangerously seductive. He was just too flamboyantly handsome—it was no wonder he had a reputation for being a flirt. Wen Yan felt something was off. “You just want a hair tie?” She couldn’t believe that was all he asked for. “Mm.” Xie Yiye examined the hair tie one more time before curling his lips into a mischievous smile. “Not entirely for you.” After what Su Qianqian said at the bar the other night, he planned to teach her a lesson anyway. As for the hair tie with strands of Wen Yan’s hair—he intended to use it for a DNA test. If the suspicion in his heart kept growing, he had to either confirm or dismiss it. Watching his odd behavior, Wen Yan felt increasingly uneasy. Once again, she was sure that Xie Yiye wasn’t taking this matter seriously. Toppling the Su family? That might just be a bored rich young master’s game. She never should’ve trusted his words from the beginning. Why would a Xie family heir help her for no reason? Wen Yan politely said goodbye without asking when he would sabotage the deal—because she didn’t believe he actually would. Xie Yiye watched her leave, wanting to follow, but stopped when he remembered the hair tie in his pocket. The most important thing now was to test her DNA. He would soon know if Wen Yan was really his sister. … “She actually gave her hair tie to Xie Yiye? Could it be that she and Xie Yiye…” Outside the villa, Su Qianqian looked at Gu Jinmo in surprise. Gu Jinmo frowned, his dark eyes like swirling black holes—impossible to read. “I’ll take you home.” He stepped forward, and Su Qianqian quickly followed. Wen Yan having an affair during marriage… Su Qianqian had been wondering how to deal with her, but now Wen Yan had handed her a weapon herself. Su Qianqian typed up a message on her phone and sent the explosive news to the city’s biggest media outlet. … The next day, Wen Yan went to the hospital where her grandmother had stayed. She hoped to find more evidence. But she didn’t expect to run into an old enemy. It was Su Qianqian. Wen Yan saw her sneak into a doctor’s office and, feeling suspicious, followed quietly. “Is the last matter taken care of?” Su Qianqian’s voice was anxious and nervous. “Don’t worry, I’ll keep it a secret,” replied a man with a gentle, steady tone. Wen Yan’s heart skipped a beat. She narrowed her eyes and crept closer. Just then, a sharp gaze shot in her direction. She looked up—and met a pair of deep, unreadable eyes. Gu Jinmo was dressed casually, hands in his pockets, lips pressed into a thin line, staring at her lazily. His refined features appeared soft at first glance but held a hidden chill. When had he arrived, and how much had he seen? “Young Master Gu,” she smiled charmingly. Gu Jinmo said nothing. Unlike her usual gentle appearance, she was dressed quite boldly today—a spaghetti strap dress ending above the knees, paired with a short cardigan that cinched at the waist, highlighting her curves. She looked dazzling. He instinctively looked at her hair tie—not the one Xie Yiye took. He stepped forward and lowered his voice. “Wen Yan, let’s talk.” Talk? In three years of marriage, he’d barely spared her a glance. Now he wanted to talk? Wen Yan laughed—whether at her years of devotion, or her own foolishness, she wasn’t sure. … In a nearby café outside the hospital. Gu Jinmo originally wanted to ask about her and Xie Yiye, but remembering his bold declaration when he let her go, he held back. In the end, he simply said: “You can’t afford to offend Su Qianqian.” “Is that a warning?” she asked. It certainly sounded like a threat. Wen Yan’s eyes turned red as she gave a bitter smile. Su Qianqian was indeed untouchable—with the Su family behind her, and also… Gu Jinmo. Thinking of yesterday’s events, Gu Jinmo slowly frowned. “Su Qianqian is collecting evidence to accuse you of defamation.” “Defamation?” Wen Yan’s eyes reddened further, glaring at him. “My grandmother was killed by her!” “You have no proof.” “I will find it,” she said, lips curving into a cold smile. “Before the Su family kills me, I’ll destroy her.” “We’ll see if you have the ability,” Gu Jinmo said, his voice as cold as steel, stabbing her heart. Wen Yan’s nose stung. Before her tears could fall, she bit down hard on her lip. “Gu Jinmo, my grandmother was good to you.” Her voice trembled. “Can you promise me one thing—don’t get involved in my fight with Su Qianqian.” She had hope in her eyes. Taking on the Su family alone was already tough. If Gu Jinmo also joined them, she would stand no chance. But if he stayed out of it—that alone would be the greatest help. But under her expectant gaze, Gu Jinmo slowly looked away. “I’m sorry.” Sorry… So, he was determined to protect Su Qianqian. As expected, three years of marriage… all for nothing. The man she once loved, her husband, had become her enemy’s shield. “It’s fine,” Wen Yan smiled and pinched her thigh hard to hold back her tears. “Su Qianqian really has a blessed life.” She committed heinous acts, yet had so many people protecting her—including her own husband. Gu Jinmo thought she would give up. Instead, her determination only grew stronger. He didn’t want to see this version of her—so cold and paranoid, so different from the gentle woman he remembered. “Gu Jinmo, from this day on, you’re my enemy too.” Enemy… The word stung. Gu Jinmo’s eyes narrowed slightly, a strange irritation bubbling in his chest. “If I’m your enemy, then what about Xie Yiye?”
