Chapter 11

1042 Words
Elara’s POV If it weren't for the family occasion being held today, I would have been in another pack with Alpha Kael by my side. He did say that we could always go on vacation whenever I was ready, and that was kind of him. After Alpha Kael’s Beta called my name yesterday, I just had to return home. I assumed a dignitary called me until he showed up at my face. My heart almost jumped out of my chest. “We are waiting for you, Elara!” Lila screamed at the top of her voice. Screaming was one of her favorite things to do. I was done, but I just needed to put on my shoes and perfume. I knew how today’s event would unfold because it happened in my past life. It might also interest Lila to know that I was prepared for her. My dress wasn’t basic, it was a beautiful ball gown. In my past life, I had something simple for the occasion just because I didn’t want the spotlight to be on me, but that wasn’t the case right now. All of Jaxon’s extended family members would be present, and even dignitaries in the pack. It was his late father’s memorial which was always held every year. He claimed it was to honor his late father, but it was more like a family reunion to me. “Lila,” I muttered after stepping out of the room. She was standing right in front of the door. “Your dress,” she smirked. “Beautiful, right?” “I think it doesn’t fit the occasion. We are remembering the dead and not throwing a birthday party,” she cooed. It was so hard for her to stop staring at me from my head to my toes. She did feel intimidated by me. “Oh, I see. I didn’t realize grief had a dress code or that you were appointed the fashion police for the dead.” I said calmly. I let my gaze sweep over her once before returning to her eyes. In my past life, I would have either walked away or gone back into the room to change my outfit. “But then again, some people mourn quietly while others just look for attention. I guess we all cope differently.” I smiled, and then I proceeded to say. Her lips parted as if she wanted to respond, but nothing came out. Since she had no more words to say to me, I decided to walk away without looking back at her miserable face. I could go see Nia right now or go say hi to Jaxon’s family members. As they did in my past life, they would all talk down on me and also ask why I haven’t given them an heir all in Jaxon’s presence. The hallway wasn’t filled with so many werewolves, majority of the guests were in the compound where the event would be taking place. I was headed for Nia’s room, my daughter would always come first. “Elara,” My ears caught Jaxon’s voice. I looked straight in front of me and I saw him coming. This was my first time seeing him today. He wasn’t next to me on the bed when I woke up, and I didn’t bother to look for him because I didn’t care. His whereabouts were none of my business. “You look…” “You don’t have to mention, I know I look so good,” I chimed. I made him swallow the rest of his words abruptly because he planned to talk down on my outfit. It was written all over him. His mother and sister were permitted to wear something gorgeous today, but I wasn’t. It wasn’t even my father’s memorial, so why should I be the one sulking? Even Jaxon was well dressed. “Everyone has been asking after you. You have to come with me to say hi right now,” he gripped my wrist and said. “Let go of me,” I warned, but he pretended as though he didn’t hear me. I knew exactly what he was trying to do, he wanted to drag me to his family members so they would assume that he still had a hold on me. On second thought, it would be nice to boost his ego, so I didn’t repeat myself. He was only a step ahead of me and he still held on to my wrist as though his life depended on it. I would have to check back on Nia some other time. She was in safe hands, so I had nothing to worry about. “Be nice to them, that’s all I ask of you,” Jaxon said. He spoke in a soft tone, but I wasn’t surprised. Everyone were gathered in groups, I found out after I stepped into the compound with Jaxon. I saw his mother and her evil best friend standing next to each other. They were definitely gossiping. “So, Elara. Maybe you should return what you stole before things get worse,” Lila mentioned from behind me, and it caused me to pause. A soft gasp spread through the crowd and all eyes turned to me. She made sure to be loud enough so everyone heard what she said. Jaxon let go of my wrist after his sister said those words. She folded her arms and was clearly enjoying the attention. She chose to do this today in front of everyone and I wasn’t surprised again. She did all of these and more in my past life. “It’s funny how expensive things keep disappearing whenever you’re around. You stole a valuable piece of jewelry that belongs to me, it’s a gift from my…” “You don’t have proof that she stole it,” Jaxon cut in. His voice was also loud. She looked around at the others, as if she was expecting them to call me a thief. I stayed calm and watched quietly as the drama unfolded. Everything happens exactly as it did in my previous life, even the timing, the words, and Jaxon's fake concern. “I volunteer to go search her room,” Jaxon's mother’s evil friend said.
