Chapter 7Wednesday night, Russell and Chris sat in the dressing room behind Jelly’s performance theater. It was 8:45 and people were talking loudly as they searched for their seats or for a place to stand. I’d checked at the ticket table and talked to Elizabeth and Jelly. We were all amazed at how much this concert was bringing in for the scholarship fund. Finally, Jelly checked his watch. “Time to get started,” he said. “I’ll go make sure they’re ready.” I walked over and knocked lightly before I went in. “You’ve got a good audience,” I said. “We’re making more than we ever thought. We just had someone who hadn’t bought a ticket pay ten thousand dollars so he and his wife could sit down.
