THIRD-PERSON POV
Veronica stood over an unconscious Rámon, watching him closely. She didn’t think her crazy plan would work, but it did.
She was indeed pregnant, but the baby wasn’t his.
She didn’t want to continue living a life of scarcity. If she could, she would have trapped Vincenzo down, but he never took the bait and indulged her schemes.
The only one that took the bait was Rámon.
She honestly didn’t want him, considering how cold and aloof he was, but he was rich nonetheless.
She just wanted to live a life of luxury, and that was something he could provide.
She really didn’t want to become a mother, but she made several mistakes when sleeping around with lower class men who didn’t use protection.
She honestly didn’t know who the father was.
Now, she’s having to scheme her way out of the mess that she evidently created. A baby is not something she wanted for her life, but at least she can try and get a good life out of this huge mess.
She took a seat next to Rámon and caressed his cheek.
“It’s such a pity.” She whispered, “You are so handsome but so f*****g stupid.”
Her eyes trailed over his large frame.
“If I wasn’t pregnant already, I would have totally took advantage of you and made sure to carry your seed to term.” She whispered as her hands trailed down his chest and under his shirt.
Before she could take this any further, a light knock sounded at her door.
“Perfect timing.” She smiled, knowing she was gonna get away with the greatest heist she’s ever fabricated.
She was gonna be rich by the time she birthed this bastard baby.
She opened her front door, seeing Dr. Marinetti looking pretty nervous. His spectacles were fogged out and beads of sweat trailed down his wrinkled forehead.
“Come in doctor.” Veronica sweetly cooed as she held the door open for him.
He tightly clutched his medical bag and entered the apartment. His eyes instantly found Rámon, noticing his large body hanging off the small couch.
“How much did you give him?” Dr. Marinetti questioned, “I told you to only give him enough to make him drowsy.”
“He is drowsy.” Veronica countered, “He was so drowsy that he passed out.”
Dr. Marinetti sighed out before he sat his bag down and cleared his glasses off. He had shaky hands as his heart raced in fear.
He knew he should have never been doing this, but he had no choice. He owed Veronica’s father, considering he owed a lot of gambling debts.
Veronica’s father, Santino, was a ruthless man. He paid off Dr. Marinetti’s gambling debts, considering he needed a doctor on his payroll for illegal reasons. Dr. Marinetti has been his puppet for so long that he doesn’t even feel like living any more— but he has no choice.
He lives to serve Santino and his daughter.
“So, how does all of this work?” Veronica questioned as Dr. Marinetti reached into his bag and started pulling his supplies out.
“I’m gonna take multiple samples of his DNA.” Dr. Marinetti explained, “Once the paternity test is completed, I will switch the samples to make sure that the results come back positive.”
“It’ll show that he is the father of my baby?”
Dr. Marinetti nodded his head, “Yes, precisely.”
“What about him brining other physicians to the hospital tomorrow?”
“I will switch the samples.” Dr. Marinetti reassured, “Plus, once it’s in the system, it wont be changed.”
Veronica beamed with excitement, knowing she was gonna be f*****g rich.
“Unless he sends samples to other facilities that conduct the tests.” Dr. Marinetti spoke out, instantly killing her joy.
“And how would that happen?!” She snapped back, really wanting to kill this doctor right now.
“If he still has doubts after these results, then there’s a possibility he will conduct paternity tests elsewhere.”
Veronica rolled her eyes.
“Don’t worry, he won’t have any doubts.”
Dr. Marinetti looked at her, not understanding how she was so calm with all of this.
“Hurry up and take the samples before he wakes up!” She snapped, making him jump in fear.
He pulled his supplies out and got them ready before he began swabbing the insides of Rámon’s mouth. He took multiple samples, making sure he had enough for any problems that may occur in the future. He also pricked his finger and secured a small vial of his blood, knowing he needed it to tamper with the other samples when doing the paternity test.
In his mind, he knew this plan was foolish. It wasn’t gonna bear any fruit like Veronica thought it would. Then again, he knew Veronica and Santino weren’t that smart. They ruled with their fists and not with their minds.
But that wasn’t his problem.
He was here because he had a job to do and really didn’t have any other choice. To him, he’d die from either party, considering Rámon Bonanno was more ruthless than Santino.
He was just hoping he could get away before this whole plan blew up in all of their faces.
“Did you get enough samples?” Veronica asked as Dr. Marinetti started packing away his things.
“Yes.” He answered back as he quickly packed his things away, wanting to get out of here already.
“Good.” Veronica smirked triumphantly, “I’ll see you in the morning then.”
Before Dr. Marinetti left, he looked over at Rámon who was still unconscious.
“What are you gonna tell him when he wakes up?” The doctor curiously asked, “He’s gonna feel the effects of the drug when he wakes up.”
“Do I pay you to ask questions?!” Veronica sneered as she glared at the doctor.
He gulped nervously before putting his head down and walking towards the door.
“I’ll handle everything. Just do your job and make sure the test results come out in my favor.” Veronica gave him a sweet smile before she kicked him out of her apartment.
Once he was gone, she breathed out a sigh of relief. She knew that everything was working out in her favor and she was one step closer to never having to worry about anything in her life.
Not only will she be rich, but she will have power. More power than her father ever had and she will finally be able to break away from him and his dirty deeds.
Veronica walked over to Ramon and took a seat next to him.
“My sweet, sweet Rámon.” She purred as she caressed his cheek, feeling the way his stubble pricked her fingers. “You have no idea what you got yourself into.”
She leaned down and placed a soft kiss on his lips.
“You will be mine and I will own everything you have ever built.” She smirked, “Caterina will be so heartbroken once she finds out that she won’t be carrying your heirs.”
She had a triumphant smirk on her face as she felt her heart warm at the thought.
She hated Caterina and how she carried herself. She always presented herself like she was better than everybody, but Veronica took pride in knowing she would destroy her little heart.
She looked forward to it.
Veronica stood up and busied herself around the apartment, knowing she had things to do. She needed to set the scene for when Rámon woke up in the morning.
She had to play her part more than anything right now.
Her life was about to change.
…
Rámon woke up, feeling like he was hit by a bus. Veronica was sitting on an old wooden chair across from him, nursing a steaming hot cup of tea.
“Good morning sleepy head.” She smiled sweetly, “You drank way too much last night.”
Rámon’s eyes fluttered as he looked around the room. He noticed the two empty bottles of whiskey on the wooden table near him.
‘Did I really drink that much?’ He thought.
His head was pounding and it was to hard for him to try and recall any memories from last night.
All he remembers is coming here to check on Veronica and the baby after she hysterically called him. He thought something had happened to the baby, but she was fine.
He doesn’t remember anything after that.
“Would you like me to make you breakfast?” Veronica asked out as she took a sip of her tea, “I can cook you some eggs, and make you a slice of toast.”
“No thanks.” Rámon muttered back as he sat up on the couch. He rubbed his head, feeling like the room was spinning.
He looked down at his suit, noticing all the wrinkles, but everything seemed to be in place.
At least he didn’t f**k her again in a drunken state. He wouldn’t be able to forgive himself if he did that.
He loves Caterina and doesn’t want anybody else. If anything, he’s repulsed by anybody but her, considering the s**t he got himself into.
“Do you want to take a shower here before we head over to the hospital?” Veronica asked out, throwing him from his thoughts.
“No, I’m gonna run home.” He said back as he stood up on shaky legs.
“f**k, I gotta stop drinking.” He whispered as he took a couple of steps on shaky legs.
“Would you like me to come with you?” Veronica spoke out as she walked over to him. She had a sweet smile on her face, as if everything was perfect in the world.
“No, I’ll see you later.” He said back as he stumbled towards the front door, “Meet me at the hospital in two hours. Don’t be late.”
With those last words, he left.
He just didn’t know that today his life would change forever.
