Chapter Twelve
Paint in every shade imaginable stained Lexi’s fingers, and she was pretty sure she’d painted just about every creature God had ever created, and some He hadn’t, on one smiling cherub face or another. By lunchtime, her face hurt from smiling so much. Not only were the children adorable and so excited it was contagious, she loved hanging out with Sophie and Zach. They were so cute together, and their banter was both uplifting and often comical. Listening to Sophie tell Zach how to paint an elephant had Lexi’s side hurting as she said things like, “No, Dr. Kemper, the trunk is supposed to be gray, not pink!”
Max seemed to enjoy their company as well, and Lexi could see the four of them spending a lot of time together. That is, if whatever had happened between the two of them
