Victor's smile was from ear to ear after they ended the call. He couldn’t believe that in an instant, his world had totally changed. “What’s that smile for?” His girlfriend asked with her eyebrows drawn together, smiling. She was even shaking her head because she was confused as to why he seemed to be happy after he took the call. Victor shrugged his shoulders. He couldn’t help the smile forming in his lips. He was so young and yet he was able to achieve his dreams. “Well, I just happened to receive some good news,” he said and then moved his shoulders upward. “I am just going to have an interview with Ms. Gretchen on her morning show after tomorrow. It’s gonna be a live show,” he announced with pride in his voice. He felt like he was already close with his dreams. Dreams that he never thought would come into reality that soon. His heart was full of happiness. So much happiness that he couldn’t already contain them. Cynthia was looking at him as if she hadn’t heard him right. He nodded his head as a confirmation that it was not a joke, but it was for real. “Wow! Is that for real? That’s a great achievement! I am sure after that interview. You are going to be popular. That is just everyone’s dream. If you know what I mean,” Cynthia said as her eyes went round when she learned that her fiancé was going to have an interview with one of the top-rated morning talk shows. It would be a great honour if a person would be invited to that show. Only those people who really achieve something in life were being interviewed there. The joy and surprise were written all over her face. She was even shaking her head like she couldn’t believe it was going to happen. Edlyn let out a sigh. “Well, he is already well-known for winning the competition in sea games, that’s just an extra exposure,” she said and almost rolled her eyes. She said in a low voice but her gesture was so visible. That didn’t escape Victor's eyes. He immediately wrapped his arm on Cynthia’s shoulder and then he threw a sharp look at his cousin. He couldn’t understand why on earth she actually said that. He felt like his cousin was trying to spoil his moment. “Just ignore her. What time do you want me to drop you home? Or do you want to spend the night here?” He said and then he gave her a sinister smile. He winked at her at the same time which made her giggle. Cynthia shook her head as she smiled back at him. “You are naughty, boy. I need to go back home now and it’s almost ten in the evening. I still have my class tomorrow morning,” the woman said after she looked at her wristwatch. “Alright, let me just drop you home,” he said to the woman. Cynthia shrugged her shoulders. “Let me just say goodbye to your parents,” the woman said and then headed to where her parents were. Victor felt like heaven and the universe conspired together because of everything that suddenly happened in his life. He couldn’t really believe that he would be like an instant celebrity. Not like those ordinary ones but a high calibre because of the invitation that he got over the phone. He wondered what would be next after that. He was happy because he knew that his family would be happy with his achievements. They stood up and then he went to his room to go and get the key to his car. Victor was even humming a song while heading to his room. He was really feeling great. After getting that, he stepped out of the room and then he met his fiancée in the living room who was with his parents. “Are you sure you can drive, Vic?” His father suddenly asked. He could see the worry in his face as if he wouldn’t want him to drive. “Yes, Dad. It’s just a bottle of beer. You know me. I have a high tolerance when it comes to alcohol. Beer isn’t the one that could make me feel drunk,” he said and then smiled at him. Edlyn clicked her tongue, and she was shaking her head and in a bitchy tone she spoke from Victor’s behind. “Yes, you have a high tolerance since you have drowned yourself in alcohol three years ago,” his cousin said which made him a bit pissed off. He couldn’t tell what was happening to her since she had been having an attitude since earlier. “Could you just please shut up?” He said in a low but firm tone. He was grateful that Cynthia and his mother were already outside waiting for him in the garage and they didn’t hear what Edly said. His face turned dim. He couldn’t figure out what was his cousin’s problem. She had been showing an attitude since earlier. She was testing his patience. He wanted to ask her what could be her problem but he just shut his mouth and looked at her. “Hey, I am just joking. Just drive safely,” Edlyn said and smugly smiled at him when she saw how serious he was already. If she was trying to be funny, then sorry to her because she wasn’t. He and Cynthia left his house heading to the woman’s place. He felt like his cousin was trying to ruin his night. He didn’t want to think that she was not happy for him. He saw his girlfriend playing with the ring that he gave her earlier in the airport. “Are you happy?” He asked after he gave a glimpse of her. Then he focused his eyes back on the road. Until now, he couldn’t believe that he was able to ask Cynthia that question. It took a lot of courage for him to kneel down and ask her in front of a lot of people. He no longer thought if the woman would be refusing his proposal. He was so happy that he didn’t think anything negative would happen. Victor was smiling while driving because he saw in Cynthia’s eyes the happiness because of everything that happened the whole day. Just like him, his fiancée was happy beyond words that could be described. Cynthia faced him with a wide smile on her face. “Yes, I am very happy,” Cynthia replied as she looked at him. Excitement was all over her face. She held her hand up and then looked at the engagement ring that he gave her. He could see how bright her eyes were while staring at it. “I am sure you received a lot of messages from your colleagues and calls,” he said. “Yes, you know. It’s just a dream come true. You made my dreams come true,” she said and the joy in her voice couldn’t be denied. He even saw the woman kiss the engagement ring that he gave to her. “Really? Is it really your dream? To marry me?” He asked one after the other while his eyes were still on the road. “Yes, of course but my dream that I am talking about is to marry a famous man. I always dreamt of having a man that would be declaring his love for me in public and then propose to me in front of the crowd,” she said as she tried to recall everything that Victor did for her. “Today, that finally happened. You proposed to me in public and that’s via live telecast! What else could I ask for? Oh, babe. You just don’t know how I felt at that moment. I felt like I was on cloud nine. I know that there are a lot of women who envied me,” she said and then giggled. “This is what I really wanted to do. I wanted to let everyone know how lucky I am to be your future husband. I want them to know that I am the one that was blessed because I have you in my life. I know and I could feel that you will always be there for me to support me in every decision that I will be making in my life, right?” Victor said and he was trying his best not to get too emotional. “Of course, every time that you will be joining any competition, I will always be there for you. I will just be by your side,” she said and clung her arms to his arms. “Thank you, babe because I believe in what they say that behind the success of a man is a woman,” Victor said and then looked at her as he stopped the car because of the red light. He turned his head to the woman who was still staring at the diamond ring. “Babe, what if I don’t join the competition? Or what if something happened and it stopped me from joining the Olympics? Will you still be by my side? Will you still love me?” He asked out of the blue to the woman. He didn’t know why he even asked the question but Cynthia’s reaction got him. But Victor didn’t expect Cynthia’s reaction. Her face suddenly flushed. Her eyebrows were raised and the woman was looking at him. “What are you talking about, babe? I know that wouldn’t happen because you wouldn’t let that happen, right? There’s no way that you cannot join the contest. You should join the Olympic competition no matter what, okay? You are a well-known swimmer and you have already won a lot of medals and trophies so what else is gonna stop you?” She said and he could feel that the woman was just trying to keep her emotions towards him. Victor couldn’t help but just nod after he heard what his girlfriend said. He was thankful that it was already a green light so he started to drive the car away. He focused his eyes on the road while he was thinking about the things that Cynthia said to him earlier. He didn’t know why but he felt like it wasn’t the answer that he wanted to hear from her. He admitted that he felt disappointed because of Cynthia’s reply. He was not satisfied with her answer but he wouldn’t let that ruin his happiness and he would just ignore that. Why did he even ask that kind of question? Goodness. And, he should understand that there’s no woman who would want her man to fail. And, probably Cynthia didn’t want to think that something might happen to him. The good thing was that he made her happy because he made her dream come true. It didn’t take a while and they finally reached Cynthia’s place. Her parents congratulated him for winning the competition and also for being engaged to their daughter. Victor stayed for a little while at her house until he decided to get back home because it was already getting late. If it was only possible for him to sleep in her place, he should have stayed but he needed to respect her. He promised himself that he wouldn’t be doing what he had done before with Christine. They were young and naive at that time. Though he couldn’t deny that he had been happy with the woman because he was the first man in Christine’s life. Though, he had no idea what really happened to the woman because she just suddenly disappeared. He never heard anything about her since then. He was even thinking if he got her pregnant but that was so impossible because it never happened again. Victor just left Cynthia’s place and he was still just a few metres away from their subdivision. When a long sound of a horn was suddenly heard on the place. A loud tug was heard next and then he heard a sound of the ambulance before he lost his consciousness.
