Krynsín was quiet at this time. Nothing to show life of any kind. I could feel the weight of heavy stares against my ebony skin. I wrapped my frail arms around my chest like a shield. His cold eyes glared at me in wait as his thick brows lifted in question. The loud rush of the river water crashing against the rocks had my mind staying for the real world and into my own. One where my mother is still hugging me and everything is rainbows and sunshine.
A loud clearing of the throat snapped me back to reality. My eyes slowly trailed up his strong frame that towered me effortlessly before I raised off of the cold moss hesitantly. His eyes grew impatient, his thick claws protruding from his large hands.
"Speak now or you won't ever again." The promising threat had my body shrinking in on itself as I forced myself to speak. "M-my name is L- Lavender Cole, daughter of Celeste Cole from the Spynel Flutter in Flutter's Cove,"
His eyes lit in surprise, my shaking knees and my fast-paced heart stuttered at the expression. His frame moved closer towards mine, ever so slowly. I didn't know if he would claw out my throat or wrap me in a much-needed hug. His ruby eyes glanced over my frame settling on my verdants before realization dawned upon him. The crease between my brows increased, I wasn't sure what similarity he found between my mother and I but I was thankful that he didn't plan to kill me anymore.
His arms stretched to wrap around my face. A strangled gasp escaped my lips as his eyes ran over my face for the umpteenth time. "C-Celeste?" The words were broken and so was the look in his eyes as if he was reuniting with a long-lost best friend. The silence was so loud that I wished that I was deaf. It was just an awkward stare-off and between us. I had to tread this carefully, after all this man can shapeshift and tear my head off its hinges. "Y-yes,"
A bright smile latched onto his face as he pulled me into a firm bear hug. I shrieked from the unexpected contact before excepting way too soon. His hug was comforting, it felt natural as if it was meant to happen. "No way! She was telling the truth! I do have another sister, I'm Kaïzer Fury, Alpha of the Night Howlers pack, it's a....pleasure to meet you," His shocked-filled eyes roamed my sweaty attire. I wanted to be sure that I wasn't giving this beast any false hope hence I continued the conversation.
"If you're my brother, why is your last name Fury and not Cole?" His dazed eyes flittered before answering. "That's because you got your mother's name, and I didn't," He finally released me, offering his hand which I instantly accepted. He started guiding me to where they took Kalra. "Our father had four... five of us now that you're here. He had us all with different women, but it looks as if Celeste didn't want you to know that, hence your last name." My head nodded in agreement, she didn't want me to know about all of this.
His bare feet against the slippery river rocks gave me unneeded anxiety, it seemed as if he would fall at any moment but my poor heart wasn't prepared for what came next. When we've reached the shallow river he placed his foot in but it engulfed his entire 6'5ft frame like it was never there. I stood there shocked, wondering how the shallow river managed to bury him. Without any warning, he swam up to the surface pulling me in. Loud screams echoed from my throat before I engulfed a large breath. I couldnt swim but what was underneath the mysterious water had me forgetting how to breathe.
It was where I just jumped from as if I never jumped at all the only proof being my wet clothes against the river bed. It was the exact same the only difference being the small town filled with beasts like Kaïzer on the other side of the river, the side that Kaïzer originally came from. "W-What is this?" A hearty chuckle escaped his lips as he pulled me deeper into the mysterious place, the river flowing freely behind me. "The river is just a mirage to keep the Lethals out, it's also the entrance to my pack. Let's take you to my office and we can discuss there, how does that sound?" He suggested.
Kaïzer didn't seem as intimidating as he was before, he was calm, collective, and friendly. His pearly whites never dulled and his ruby eyes were welcoming. "S-sure why not?" My eyes traveled through the small town, a place that looked not too far off from Spynel Flutter. Wolves of all shapes and sizes ran through the thick trees in playful banter. The scrumptious aura of mouthwatering food lazily drifted through the air filling my nostrils and the loud chimes of music and flamboyant houses had me relaxing.
Soon enough my feet stilled before a glass two-story building with a modern build of all steel columns and polished concrete floors. Behind the glass pivot entrance were werewolves buzzing with work. We hastily entered as Kaïzer pulled me into an open elevator carrying us to the second floor. As the elevator rose I decided to start a conversation. "How's Karla?" Kaïzer's brows scrunched in confusion before lifting in realization. "The girl that you had with you? Karla huh....that's a beautiful name." His eyes glazed over a wild green, as if in deep thought. I looked around the reflective glass box that we're trusting our lives with slightly worried about everything.
"Yes her...how is she?" He shook his silky locks, snapping back into reality his eyes reverted to their original colour. "She's ohk, in the medical center but a little drained, she just needs a little bit of rest.
I certainly didn't expect that, I thought that he would just tell me her location and say something along the lines of ' She's being taken care of, don't worry.' but he explained everything in detail as if he was there. He must have noticed the confusion on my face as another laugh reverberated from his muscular chest.
However, when he open his mouth to explain a loud chime echoed in the small box indicating that it has reached our destination. My mouth dropped to the floor once the silver doors slid open, revealing a huge office, painted in obsidian and accentuated with gold trimmings. The place screamed masculinity from the high, sturdy black chairs to the shiplap wall coloured in the mysterious shade of white gold. It reflected in the warm sunlight tore through the large glass wall overlooking the town's residents and beautiful forest.
The yellow-lit chandelier hung from the white ceiling that lit up all the white gold decor. A large, black howling wolf figure stood proudly at the center of the twenty-seat desk. It was magical, comfortable, and dominant. It displayed Kaïzer's personality so well. "You catch flies with that opened mouth." His eyes lit up with amusement as he held his place at the highest seat in the room. The chair's back wasn't an ordinary one, it mirrored the figure that stood on the desk.
My cheeks painted a vibrant crimson before I took a seat at one of the other desks. I noticed that they were no personal touches to the room, no pictures of families or friends, no awards nothing at all but the huge desk, decor, and the large flat screen T.V that rested on the wall behind me. "Did you eat any of the Kynery?" He asked as soon as I got settled.
It was strange that I didn't react the same to Karla even though we both ate the fruit.
I ate the Kynery, but nothing happened to me. Here I am, as healthy as one can be while she's battling for life. Maybe it was because I didn't down mine like she did? Or maybe it's because we're different Faeries. "I-I did, but I guess I didn't have as much," His face was stoic but behind those ruby eyes, I could tell that he didn't believe me. Neither did I. "It doesn't matter how little of the fruit you eat. Everyone ends up with the same reaction." Now it was my turn for my face to go stoic. If everyone reacted the same, why didn't I? "I guess, I'm just not like everyone."
His eyes twinkled at that, he placed a lazy smile on his face before his eyes traveled to my shoulder, or was he trying to look behind me? "I suppose so, I mean you are the first Faery that I've seen with no wings." The way he said suggested that he wanted an explanation. My stomach twisted at the revelation, I hated talking about my condition. It always made me feel useless, dependent, and stupid. It's bad enough that I freeze up at the first sight of danger, let alone be wingless. It was just embarrassing, and people would only make fun of it.
I decided to pin the questions on him, after all, he had no right to say such things to me. "How did you know what's happening to Karla?" His brows raised in surprise, the smile fell from his face before he decided to speak again. "I guess we both have secrets then huh? Very well...why did you leave Spynel?" The smile that gleamed on my face indicated his defeat before I answered. "A high Warlock cursed me, Ethos is his name."
"Ethos, the high Warlock of Mischief? What the hell did you do for him to place a curse on you?"
"I don't know, he placed the same curse on mom, and now she's.." My voice cracked. I didn't want to go down that road once again. I will make that bastard Ethos pay for what he did, but first I needed a cure. "Celeste is gone?" His face fell into shock, I didn't blame him though my mother was a good one despite her secrets.
"Unfortunately, yes." A heavy breath left my lips. "My deepest condolences, she helped me against a Lethal....saved my life that day its unfortunate that she suffered such a faith. I do know a few high warlocks that can break your curse. Celeste should have come to me sooner." His eyes held sorrow, he looked just as broken as I had looked. He looked as if he was blaming himself for what happened even though he had no connection to it.
"No, they can't, the only thing that can cure me, is stopping the war,"
His frown sunk further. "Lavender...that war has been going on for centuries, the only way for you to stop it-"
"Is if I find out who created the Lethals, yes I know mom told me about it." Silence filled all the crevices of the room before retreating. "And no one knows what started it...the only lead that the Elder's of Krynsín have is a myth about The Vilvío Tis Alítheias (The book of Truth). I would be biased to this as I truly believe that it was created by those bloodsuckers." His face held such a grimace that the putrid feeling filled the room quickly overbearing any love for anything.
If there was anything that could help me, I was going to have to try even if it meant a wild goose chase. "Where is this Book of truth that you speak of?" He looked out the window in thought. The busy town didn't ease my current predicament, it only worsened it. "They say that it's held by the tongue of the guardians, no one knows what that means of course, but there is going to be a huge war amongst the primal four in two months." Great. Now I'd have to look in every library to find something about this book and its guardian. "Wait, who blames who?"
"We all blame it on each other, the Snakes blame us, We blame the Vampires, the Vampires blame the Witches and the Witches blame the snakes." He recited.
I let out a heavy sigh at all the loose threads in this war. There was nothing solid, nothing that gave me the slightest bit of hope. The only thing that showed promise was the book that no one could find. "Is there any place here where I can look to find out about the book?"
"Yes, we do have a library, I can escort you there if you'd like, but about those wings of yours?" My eyes narrowed in annoyance, I couldn't scratch my chin on the reason why he was so persistent about me being wingless.
"Why are you so persistent on that? Just lead me to the library please." I snapped. His eyes glowed as a large smirk grazed his face. "I like to unfold mysteries, dear sister." The sentence had my skin crawling. Why were my nonexistent wings so important to him. I took the statement as a promise, not just some empty words.
As soon as we left the elevator and stepped out of the pivoted door, I froze.
Something wasn't right. I grabbed Kaïzer and pushed us back inside. As soon as I shut the door a loud bang echoed on it. There in front of us stood the same lethal that attacked Karla and I, I could tell my the scorching hot water marks left on its side. The place grew excruciatingly hot, a blaze set to the grass the creature stood on, its Amber eyes held vengeance and its smile gleamed with revenge.
We dashed to the elevator as the screams of all the panicked workers vibrated against the frail glass. They were all running, papers were flying everywhere, people running to safety as we pressed the button to the second floor the lethal broke into the building, a soul-crushing growl ripped from its throat and it was seconds away before the silver doors slid shut with its loud bangs on the other side.
