Maximus
Upon arriving at the airport, our car drives through the back gates and directly into the air field, over to our small private hanger. The small private jet is ready and waiting for us as we pull up. I had already heard from Ross, saying he had my bag and was almost here. He was probably 5 minutes away. As I exit the car, my phone buzzes.
‘Mr. Pack, your bag is enroute to your location with, Mr. Ross.’
I instantly smile while I think about what I want to reply.
“Ahem, Max, you’re making that weird smile again,” Xavier eyed me, unsure what to say or do.
“I don’t know why I keep smiling. I guess its kind of fun not knowing what my new PA looks like, or is like as a person. I suppose I’m playing a game in my head to try and figure her out,” I say, out of boredom, I suppose.
“Go ahead and get loaded, I’ll be on in a minute. I want to wait for Ross.”
Xavier and a few others from our team who had showed up enter the plane.
‘Thank you Kylie. Will update our location once we land.’
I hit send. I put my phone in my pocket, but quickly pulled it back out to add another message.
‘And Kylie, you may call him Ross. And you may call me Max.’
Just as I hit send, Ross pulls up with my bag.
“Hey man, thanks again for picking this up for me. Did you have any trouble getting it?” I asked. It may have been a little too obvious I was trying to pry for information on Kylie.
“No problem at all,” Ross smiled mischievously. We all know the effect he has on women. We all have a certain “effect” on women. Our nature makes us stand out a bit from the normal comings and goings of the people in the world. But Ross is by far the biggest flirt out of all of us.
As we get on the plane, we place our bags overhead and take a seat. The plane is small, with 8 captain seats and 2 long benches towards the back. We all take a seat, latching our belts once we get comfortable.
“Max,” says Denver, our captain, who also happens to be my cousin. “We are ready for takeoff when you are.”
“We are all set, Denver. Let’s get these pups back home to their pack,” I said with a grin.
Ross
“So, Ross, are you going to enlighten us about this security breach or do I have to pull it out of you?” Max asks, irritation written all over his face.
“Right, sorry about the wait, my mind got a little preoccupied there for a bit,” I turned my seat to look at the rest of the guys.
“From what I have gathered from our home-base team, is that the intruder entered the perimeter by the southeastern border, near the river bank.” There is a low spot in the river that makes it easy to cross when it gets too dry. Since there hasn’t been much rain there this spring, the river is lower than usual. I was going to explain this to them, but I’m sure they realize that is the main reason.
“It is unsure what the intruder was, as there was only a faint scent trail left behind, that the tracking team couldn’t identify. However, the scent came into the space, circled a couple of trees, and went right back out the way that it came.”
“Seems to be a strange occurrence,” Xavier says. “Is it possible it was just a curious forest critter?”
“No, we don’t think so. The forest animals that live around our territory know the boundaries and will never cross over and back again. Even though they don’t speak, they understand the natural rules of our territory.”
Max spoke up. “Is that all you have, Ross?”
“Yes, that’s all I have as far as that is concerned,” I replied.
“What else would you like to discuss?” Max asked, curiosity written on his face.
“I would like to know where you found your new PA. Is she one of those mistresses you keep locked up in your mansion?” I chuckle, knowing he doesn’t really have mistresses. But I have to make sure she doesn’t belong to him, as I have plans for her and I to know each other better.
“What do you mean?” Xavier asks, as he and Max exchanged looks, as well as words.
“I have never really seen anyone quite like her. She is one of the most exquisite humans I have ever seen. There is something about her that seems so interesting,” I say, as I remember our brief interaction.
“Ross, do you think she could be your-"
“No, no Max. Unfortunately, I did get the opportunity to touch her and look into her eyes. There was no connection,” the sorrow of my voice got noticed by all in the group. As successful and accomplished as we were, most of us in this group were as single as could be. Not to say we didn’t take our fair share of conquests when we wanted. Well, except for Max. If he ever took any action, he never spoke about it to any of us. But we were all longing for the ones who were fated for us. It was surprising that Maximus didn’t have his, though. He was significantly older than the rest of us, and the rest of our kind were worried that the leader of this group wasn't ever going to find his mate.
“So… what did she look like?” Xavier asked, with a grin. “Megan mentioned she is a very beautiful woman.”
Everyone leans in a little closer, eager to hear my tale of the (hopefully) single bombshell brunette I encountered today.
“She had the most beautiful blue eyes I have ever seen. I almost got lost looking into them. She is tiny, as her kind is, and she was even wearing heels. I had a hard time not imagining her in those, if you know what I mean…”
“Enough,” Max stated. He usually lets our banter about women go on, but this time the look on his face made us all stop laughing and I cleared my throat.
“I’m sorry, Max. I didn’t realize she was yours. Please forgive me,” I said, lowering my head and exposing my neck in submission. I knew when to push his buttons, and when to shut my mouth. And this was one of the times that Max was not joking around. But I was more remorseful of the fact that he had already claimed her; of course he had, he was the boss.
“She isn’t mine,” he said, almost remorsefully. “I haven’t even met her yet. But I wont have you drooling all over her and making her into a harlot before she even has a chance to meet the rest of us and defend herself. She seems like a woman with a good head on her shoulders.”
“Yes, Sir.” We all replied.
But, as with all women, I am up for a good challenge.
