I had Megan call the cleaning company to check to see exactly who had entered that floor today. I am this close to finding her and I won’t let her go.

My drive back to my house is completely consumed by thoughts of her. The way she smells, the vision of her at the bar. This meeting will have to wait until this is resolved. The guys will understand. Most of them have been waiting for her just as long as I have.

The drive seemed short as I sped into the driveway. I parked the car and opened the front door to my house. I really need to switch my mind over to work mode. This was going to be a long afternoon.

That’s when I catch her scent, here, in my home.

My insides are doing f*****g summersaults.

Following the trail, it leads me up the stairs to my bedroom door.

This is crazy. How in the world did she get into my house and into my room? Am I, in fact, losing my mind? As if in a dream, I opened the door to the bedroom. Disappointed to not see her, I followed the scent to my closest. As I turned the corner into the room, I saw her. The same view I had of her at the bar, only this time, I knew I was going to get to see the front. I walked over to her, unaware of how stealthy I truly was. I’m about to say something to her when she turns around and runs right into my chest. As she loses her balance, I reach out to catch her before she falls to the ground. My arms retract and I end up pulling her right into my chest, right next to my heart.

Exactly where she has been all this time.

The moment I touch her skin with my hands, my fingers ignite, and the sparks shoot through my body from my head to my feet. I have waited my entire life for her to be in my arms, and here she is. And I will never let her go.

“Mine.”

The silence that followed my stumble seemed like it lasted forever and never at the same time. He held my body close to him as I regained my bearings. I swear I felt a lightning bolt jolt through my body when he touched me, and the warmth I feel right now should not be there. This is completely insane! But I can’t help but feel safe and complete in this moment.

What in the world am I doing?! Kylie! Snap out of it!

I try to pull myself away from him, and as if he had been lost in the moment too, he slowly lets me go and looks down at me. When our eyes meet, I feel another jolt of lightening rush down my body, and I can’t take my eyes off of his.

Wait, did I just hear him say ‘Mine’?

“Ahem,” we both jump as we are interrupted by Megan standing at the door. “Hey Max, I see you’ve met Kylie.”

I swear I saw her grin before she walked out of the room. Why does she keep smiling like that?!

As I look back at Max, he hasn’t taken his eyes off me, and I start to blush as I clear my own throat, ready to start trying to apologize and explain myself. That’s when I noticed the sheer size of him. He is just as tall-no, taller- than the men downstairs. His light brown hair is cut short, and his maroon t-shirt is a smidge too tight for his arms. Although, I’m not sure if they even make a shirt big enough for biceps that size. I can see a tribal bicep tattoo poking out of his left sleeve.

But I keep traveling back to those eyes, his eyes. Light blue and full of something, not just kindness but something that tells me I could trust him with my life.

“I am so sorry, Mr. Pack. I didn’t hear anyone enter the room,” I said while trying to back up to take in his whole stature. There is so much of him, it’s like my eyes need to be stacked on top of one another to get him completely in my view.

Then he smiles.

Oh.

Oh. My.

“I apologize, Kylie. It was my fault. I shouldn’t have snuck up on you like that. I wasn’t thinking, apparently.” He says while rubbing the back of his head.

Is he flustered? I’m not sure how anyone who looks like he does, could ever have any ounce of doubt about themselves in their body. Their beautiful, heaven-sent body…

And his voice. His voice is silky smooth, the kind of voice that permeates your core. The kind of voice that doesn’t even need a body to accompany it as it ravages your body…
