Optimistic

Maximus “Are you sure this is the right car? The system shows it belongs to a 20-year-old male.” I am sitting at the kitchen table watching Ross type away on his laptop. He’s a young guy, new to our operation and he is also an intern for the city police department. His access to the police database has been nothing but an asset to our business. We have been searching the police database for any trace of the blue car from last night. “Are you sure?” I asked, nervously needing it to not be true. “Yes, it says it's registered to a kid named Peter Hubbard. Definitely not a female name or picture,” he says as he turns the screen around to my view. “Xavier, get on your phone and do a search for him on all social media platforms,” I say as I get up to pour more coffee. “See if he is connected to her through any of those.” “Max, you didn’t see her face or even hear a hint of her name, how will I know if he is associated with her?” Xavier had a point. My desperation to find her was taking over all of my senses and clouding my judgement. “Just see what you can find out about him, connect with him and ask him about the car ride home last night from the bar.” “On it.” Xavier started searching on his phone for anything that might help. We don’t have a lot of time before we need to leave for the meeting. I will never be able to concentrate on anything until I find her. My phone started to ring in my pocket. I smile as I see Amy’s contact on the screen. “Hey Amy, we are just about to head out for the meeting,” I said, giving the signal to Damien by the door. “Oh, I’m sorry Amy, I hate to hear about the pup breaking his arm. Yes, just let me know when you can come back. I’m sure I can get a temp until then. Thanks for letting me know. Oh, and Amy, let me know if you need anything in the meantime.” I said as I hung up the phone. “Well, Amy won’t be able to come into the office today, or the rest of the week for that matter,” I said while scratching my head. “I need to call the temp office to see if they can send someone in for the week. I can last one day, but I can’t last all week without an assistant. Especially before this weekend.” Just then, Damien walks in. “The car is out front for you.” “I guess our search will have to wait, Xavier,” I say with a frown. “Don’t worry,” he says, trying his best to sound optimistic. “We should have her located by the end of the day.” We grab our suit jackets and head out the door. “I sure hope so, I don’t know how much longer I can wait for her.” As we climb into the car for the meeting, I take out my phone to call the temp agency. I’m really hoping once I get an assistant here to help with details, everything can work out in my favor.
