It occurred on a night when I’d managed to arrive back at our condo even earlier than my previous earliest time. I had somehow slipped away from the office a few minutes before four o’clock, and on the commute home, I hit all my subway transfers perfectly, stepping onto each car just seconds before the door closed and the subway pulled away from the platform. Consequently, it was still daylight by the time I was strolling down the street toward our condo tower. This hadn’t happened in months!
