I look around us for the first time since we left the site where Archer’s body was found —the body which some warriors had already taken back to the pack with them, ahead of us— and realized Xavier isn’t in tow.
I had been so focused on Ivy, I hadn’t even noticed that he wasn’t following behind.
My mind raced with the possibility of what might have happened to him. I need to go back. I need to find him.
Ivy’s silence stopped me in my tracks. Wasn’t she worried?
“Aren’t we going back to find him. Something could have happened to him.”
She shook her head, trying to direct me towards the entrance of the woods with the other warriors. “Xavier is the Alpha of this pack. It’s his duty to deal with the threats that this pack faces. He’ll be fine.”
