ATHENA
She felt good. She hadn’t felt this good in ages. She didn’t know something like this existed. The dragon has lit a fire in the cave, keeping her warm but she still needs clothes.
“ What is your name?” Came the dragon’s voice and Athena stiffened.
“ A-thena,” she answered.
“ What’s your name?” Athena blurted and bit on her tongue.
“ Galire,” he answered and Athena just remained quiet, not knowing what to say. She wasn’t the type that could keep a conversation going.
“ My human is Alaris but the bastard is too weak so I took over.” He added, sounding pissed and Athen couldn’t help but ask the question that came to her mind.
“ By taking over, you mean going feral?” She asked, her voice barely above a whisper but he heard her. The Eldradragon has special hearing abilities. It is said they can hear human thoughts.
Athena knew that when the beast form takes control, they have gone feral. She’d heard of werewolves going ferals due to the loss of a loved one. Especially a fatedmate. She wondered what made Alaris's beast take over.
“ Feral? I merely took control,” Galire answered, displeasure in his tone.
“ You have been with a man before.” He said and Athena’s heart skipped a beat in her chest. Being reminded of Kaden or Galire's words, she didn’t know which of them made her feel that way.
“ You are no virgin,” his voice was cold and his words were raw, reminding Athena of how her virginity was stolen by the man she was mated to.
“ but from this moment on, you belong to me, Athena. You’re my slave now. And if you even think about running, I will hunt you down, sink my claws into your flesh, and rip you apart piece by piece until there’s nothing left but blood and bone for the vultures to feast on.”
Athena’s heart sank into her stomach and blood drained from her face.
“Now, crawl here and make your master happy.” He ordered and Athena’s body went numb.
Athena ran as far as her legs to take her. She didn't believe the dragon would let her leave just like that after declaring her his slave just minutes ago. Her heart thudded in anticipation as she approached the cave opening. She didn't know the cave was this big.
‘ Just a little more,’ She told herself but a growl from behind her made her scream in fear. Her heart hammered against her chest and she felt him getting closer. She felt her speed declining as if she was glued to a position.
“ No oooooooo “ She screamed as his talons picked her from the ground, swirving her around. Her head buzzed and with a hard thud, she dropped to the floor. A painful groan left her throat as she curled on the ground.
“ Your weak little legs couldn't take you far. Could they?” He asked, a mocking tone underneath his voice.
“Let's do this again.” He said and Athena shook her head.
“ No ple-ase,” she groaned. This was the second time he made her run but ended up bringing her back. If this is his idea of entertainment, she is not interested a bit.
“ Are you refusing?” He sounded displeased and pissed. Athena gulped, she had no words.
“ Get up little wolf and run for ME.” He ordered and Athena pushed herself up to her feet. He towered over her, his amber eyes predatory. Whatever words she had, she swallowed them and took to her feet. This time around, she was determined to run to freedom. Even if it meant tearing the tendons in her joints.
A minute into running, she swiftly shifted into a grey wolf and an angry growl reached her ear. She panicked but kept running.
“ you must keep running Rena!” she told her wolf.
“ He is frightening. Oh no, he is coming,” Rena whimpered and resisted the urge to look behind her.
“ Godde…” Athena stopped before she could complete the words. She reminded herself that the moon goddess was nothing to her anymore. She will never pray to her for help. Never.
“ Go for the woods Rena!” Athena yelled and with a leap, Rena ran into the woods, running under the canopies of the trees.
The angry growl of the dragon didn't stop the little relief Athena had in her heart. She knew he was still chasing but she was relieved he wouldn't be able to reach her.
She avoided open spaces and abruptly came to a halt. No. She couldn't risk it. It's an open field. Just a minute run and she would be in the other woods but a minute is a lot. Galire can catch her within a second.
Rena howled in frustration and turned in the direction she came from. She was stuck in the forest. Nowhere to run to. The only way she could avoid being caught was by remaining under the canopies while the dragon hovers.
“ I should dig a tunnel,” Rena suggested and Athena nodded. Rena started tunneling and would rest occasionally. It was dark, she was hungry but she couldn't stop. They need to get away. Athena knew the kind of creature the dragon was. It's a kind of predator that toys with Its prey to its satisfaction before killing it.
After tunneling for hours, Rena passed out. Despite Athena's effort to wake her, it was fruitless. She couldn't shift back because the tunnel was narrow. It wouldn't size her human form.
The angry growl of the dragon reached her ears, making her panic as if he was right there, behind her but she knew he wouldn’t fit the tunnel. Why couldn’t he just give up and return to its lair?
Athena remained awake. She exhaled when Rena woke up and continued tunneling. Immediately they stepped out of the tunnel, amber eyes welcomed them. He was waiting for them as if he knew what they were up to.
“ That is enough fun for the night.” He said and Athena’s heart sank to her stomach. All that was all for nothing.
Rena forced Athena to the surface, leaving her bare. She shivered under the cool night.
“ Hop.” He told her, lowering his back. Hesitatingly, Athena used his scales as a ladder. She shrieked when something sharp cut deep into her left palm making her fall back but he caught her before she could reach the ground.
She spread her legs to the side and gripped tightly on the spikes on his neck. It was the first time she ever touched and ridden a dragon. She screamed as he flew her over the forest before alighting in the cave.
Athena wanted to come down as quickly as she could but the heat of his body made her want to stay on his back and hug him.
She climbed down and her stomach rumbled, reminding her of its emptiness.
The dragon walked away from her. She could still see him in the dark and out of nowhere, a yellow flame rose from nowhere, making the darkness disappear.
She found herself approaching the flame and slowly, she sat opposite it from the dragon. A tearing sound reached her ear, accompanied by the smell of blood, but before she could react, something dropped next to her feet. An antelope limb.
“ Eat,” Galire said. Athena stared at the meal before her. It was raw. Even though she was a wolf, she was used to eating cooked meat. The sound of his chewing made her uncomfortable as he cracked the bone of the unlucky animal.
The meat was fresh and warm. Athena knew it hadn’t been long before it died. Could it be while she was tunneling, he was hunting their dinner?
She shook her head and he growled at her. “ You don’t like it?”
Athena shook her head. “ I .. I like it.” She answered and picked the meat but instead of putting it in her mouth, she placed it over the flame.
The aroma filled the air and Athena’s stomach kept rumbling like an emerging thunderstorm. She didn’t care about the lack of seasoning, she placed the half-cooked meat in her mouth, her canines tore the flesh and she chewed like her life depended on it. Of course, her life does.
She threw the bone on the ground and wrapped her arms around herself. The fire wasn’t enough to keep her warm.
“ why haven’t you killed me yet?” She asked even when she knew she shouldn’t be talking.
“ Soon, little wolf. I will kill you.”
Athena felt chills and slowly pulled her knees to herself. Placing her head on her knees, she didn’t know when sleep engulfed her.
Galire walked to where she was curled up and wrapped her in his warm embrace. She snuggled closer, humming softly before mumbling “ I hate you,”
