Chapter 4

Just when I thought everything was over, the hospital room door suddenly burst open. "That's enough." A man wearing a mask and baseball cap rushed inside and stopped the two men. His voice was lowered, but I recognized those eyes instantly. It was Cedric. The moment Cedric realized I recognized him, he quickly pulled the brim of his hat lower. Then he turned toward Gina and spoke quietly, "That's enough. You've taken enough pictures." Gina looked annoyed, her lips twitching with frustration, but she didn't dare argue with him. Reluctantly, she waved her hand. The two men left the room. I collapsed onto the floor, my clothes barely hanging onto my body as I trembled uncontrollably. Cedric glanced at me. For a brief second, guilt flashed across his face. He even took half a step toward me. "Baby..." Gina immediately grabbed his arm, her voice soft and spoiled. "I don't feel good." Without hesitation, Cedric bent down and picked her up. Then he walked straight out of the room without looking back at me even once. The door closed. I lay there alone on the floor and suddenly started laughing. And while I laughed, tears streamed down my face. Slowly, I sat up and dialed that number again. "Dad," I said calmly. "The plan changed." Half a month later, at the hospital room, I watched Cedric slowly open his eyes in the hospital bed. His acting was incredible. He really looked like a man waking up from a long coma. "Lynna... Lynna!" His voice was hoarse, his eyes red with emotion. "I finally woke up... Even though I couldn't move these past three years, I could always feel you taking care of me. I heard you talking to me every day. Lynna, you've suffered so much for me." He wrapped his arms around me tightly, almost hard enough to stop me from breathing. But I didn't move or hug him back. I didn't even change my expression. Cedric stared at my emotionless face and froze for a second before forcing out a laugh. "What, are you so happy you can't even react?" he teased. "Don't worry, I'll never let you suffer again." Right then, Gina walked into the room carrying a thermos container. "Cedric, you're awake! I made soup for you." Her gaze swept over me briefly, a smug smile tugging at the corner of her lips. Cedric glanced at me and suddenly frowned. "Lynna, Gina came all the way here to visit me. Aren't you even going to greet her? For the past three years, every time you cried or broke down, she was the one comforting you." His tone became sharper. "When did you become this rude?" I looked at him silently. Cedric let out a sigh, then suddenly put on this fake affectionate look and grabbed my hand. "Lynna, there's something I've been hiding from you this whole time. I'm not some regular guy. I'm actually the eldest son of the Harris family. I didn't tell you before because I was scared you'd only care about my family's money, not me. But these past three years, you've taken such good care of me. I saw all of it. I've made up my mind. Let's go get married tomorrow." He paused for a second, his tone casual, almost dismissive. "But there's no need for a wedding. Getting the marriage license is enough. Our family has a certain status, and throwing a wedding would just invite gossip from people in our circle." I finally couldn't hold it in anymore. I laughed. Cedric frowned the second he saw my reaction. "What are you laughing at? I'm only marrying you because of everything we've been through together. If you know what's good for you, you'll just listen to me and stop fantasizing about some wedding. Otherwise, don't even dream about stepping foot into the Harris family." Gina walked over too, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Exactly, Lynna. Being able to marry into the Harris family is basically hitting the jackpot for someone like you. You better hold onto it tight. Guys like Cedric are a rare catch. If you're not careful, another woman might snatch him away any second." As she spoke, she shot Cedric a flirtatious look. Right then, a deep voice suddenly came from the doorway. Everyone turned around at once. A middle aged man in a black suit stood at the entrance, four bodyguards lined up behind him. The second Cedric saw my father, all the color drained from his face. My dad looked at him coldly, his voice filled with arrogance. "And who the hell do you think you are? What makes you think you're worthy of marrying Gordon Clark's daughter?"
