A soft yet shrill sound rang through my head, pulling me from sleep. I grumbled something into Ezra’s chest, and he told me to go back to sleep. But that ringing would not stop. I scowled and heaved myself off my mate. Night had not given way to dawn yet. Another chirping, and through my haziness, I realized it was a phone, the phone in my office rinsing incessantly down the hall. Sometimes, these heightened senses were more of an annoyance than a blessing. “The phone,” I told Ezra. “Want me to deal with it?” he asked, his lids falling shut.
