THE NEXT DAY
I rode back to the pack feeling fulfilled.
I had found the herbs I need to get rid of the blood guard connection, I even managed to dispose of the bond crystal and tracking crystal.
I would like to see Jennifer use the blood guard's curse on me again.
But my preparation is not yet complete, so I need to lie low for now.
My birthday was last night, I finally shifted into a powerful wolf.
My efforts finally paid off.
It was nearly sunset when I rode into the pack. I was ready to receive the punishment for failing the mission. I slowly rode to the Alpha's palace, feeling smug despite the impending punishment before me.
I stabled the horse and turned to enter the palace through the back entrance when it hit me.
That sweet smell.
Mate! My wolf shouted.
I rushed in and collided with a mass of muscles and looked up.
Alpha Cain? The Alpha's son?
His eyes widened?
"What?" He growled, shaking me off in disgust.
At once, immense disappointment filled my heart. He was as cruel as the rest, maybe worse. His handsome face can barely mask his cold and ruthless heart.
"I Alpha Cain Johnson, reject you Madison Blake, as my mate" he growled angrily.
At once, I felt immense pain tear at me but I quickly bit my lips.
Pain was not a new thing to me.
"I Madison Blake, accept your rejection" I quickly said with a look of defiance.
I saw him clutch his heart, he felt the pain too.
"You better not let anyone find out about this. Disgusting!" He said and rushed away.
I chuckled and went into Jennifer's quarters.
I quickly knelt before her waiting for the storm.
"Where's his head?" She roared at me.
"I'm sorry your highness, he and his men were too strong. I barely escaped alive" I muttered.
"Lies! Why didn't you burn your bloodline? Wait! Where are the crystals on your wrists?" She roared furiously.
"I lost them during the fight, your highness. Please forgive me" I whispered, pasting mock fear on my face and she angrily descended on me.
She began to hit and punch me furiously, scratching my face at intervals. I quietly lay there, trying my best to shield my face and head.
Well, my mate already rejected me.
It's not as if there's anyone I'm trying to look good for.
I only need to focus on staying alive and protecting my brother.
The only person that matters now.
She stood up gasping and heaving.
"Take her to the dungeons!" She shouted, rubbing her sore knuckles.
She had hurt herself by hitting me so hard. I forced back a giggle as they dragged me off.
All of a sudden we heard a commotion. Soldiers were hurriedly rushing to the walls and I could hear the gates closing.
The sounds of hooves were thundering outside as the men hurriedly tried to organize a defense. The maids holding me threw me off in fright and I rushed to the tower.
My heart skipped a beat.
There were soldiers stretched as far as the eyes could see.
They were bearing a banner 'HEAVEN'S SWORD'. In a matter of minutes their soldiers launched their equipment and balls of fire began to rain inside the pack house. I could see the villages in the distance on fire. And soon, battering rams began to hammer on the walls.
It's just been ten minutes and they already caused this massive destruction.
In just an hour, they had nearly torn down the wall and gates.
I looked down and saw my brother running along with the soldiers and loading arrows to be shot.
My heart skipped a beat and I rushed down to him.
"Why the f**k are you here? Enter the house immediately. Can't you see the people burnt to death by their fireballs? You're not yet eighteen, don't risk your life for a useless venture!" I shouted at him.
"Let me go. The pack is in danger and you want me to sit and do nothing, despite being a trained warrior and one of the future leaders of the pack?" He shouted angrily.
It's the first time he shouted at me.
I sighed.
"Did you see Princess Jeniffer? Are you stronger than her? She's even stronger after sucking my essence, but she chose to hide in her room. Even that fool Cain is being heavily guarded while he gives orders. But the Alpha didn't send anyone to protect you, and you're here fighting!" I roared at him.
Just then I saw a fireball falling in our direction.
I quickly carried him and leaped away, half-transforming into a wolf.
I landed behind a drum and watched the spot we left on fire. Some people were unlucky to have been caught in it.
But I don't care.
I rubbed my brother's hair lovingly.
"You have shifted?" He asked.
"Yes, but keep it a secret." I whispered.
Just then, I heard a voice transmission from my father ordering me to appear in the Alpha's study.
"Did you hear the summon too?" My brother asked.
I quickly rushed to the study, clutching his hand.
I came in and saw Alpha Micha, Cain, Jennifer, the Gamma's daughter and my father in the study. There were also two maids and two guards.
I looked down and saw the hurriedly packed bag.
"Madison, they're the future of the pack. Protect them and ensure they get to safety. You must protect them at all costs. Once they survive, the pack can be rebuilt" the Alpha said to me coldly.
My father gave a bag to my brother, it contained jewelry, food, money, techniques and elixirs.
I can see that the other three had similar loads.
The maids were carrying some clothes, food and drugs. I bet they felt lucky to be chosen among those to be smuggled out.
The alpha led us into a secret door in his office.
"Enter the secret tunnel. Cain knows the exit. Madison, remember your duty. I leave their safety in your hands. I know you're equal to the task" Alpha Micha said to me.
My father held my hand as I grabbed my brother's hand to leave.
"This is my last order to you. Please don't fail me!" He said to me with a pleading gaze, giving my brother a pointed look.
I nodded. I will definitely protect my brother, even without his useless orders.
"Dad, when are you guys coming?" My brother asked, holding my dad in panic.
"We will follow you soon. We will leave In batches. You're among the first batch" he said reassuring my brother.
But everyone knew it was a lie.
The rest will buy time for the heirs to escape.
