CHAPTER 11

LIYA*** “Are you sure?” he asked, concern and worry showering over his eyes. “Yes, Sir, I am okay,” I abruptly said, trying to maintain my composure. “I hope so. If you are not feeling well, then you can excuse yourself,” he said, putting his hand over my shoulder. I felt a wave of energy like electricity running over my nerves. “Actually, I am not well; I will see you later,” I said, walking away from him. I moved past the crowd, wishing no one would stop me this time. I finally reached the road and rushed home, his touch leaving a huge impact on my brain. I kept feeling his touch. I could not brush him off my mind. “Oh my god, did I just talk to him!” I exclaimed, feeling bubbles of butterflies in my stomach as the sound of his voice kept ringing in my ears like a bell. It was so unbelievable that I talked to him. Whoever he was, I loved him so much. I was not ready to fall in love, but the thought of that strange man made me gradually fall in love. I bounced home excitedly; my dress flared in all sorts of directions. As I moved, I saw a familiar figure ahead of me; I focused my eyes on the person. It was my friend Jennifer. Where is she going? I thought as I approached her, hiding the excitement on my face. As she moved, she did not realize that I was in front of her; when she finally noticed me, she increased her pace as she pointed her figure towards me while saying something: “You, I came looking for you, but you were not there,” she wore a frowned face. When we finally met, I wrapped my arm around her neck, pulling her in for a hug to ease her frustration but she babyishly folded her arms, refusing to hug me. “Come on, hug me back,” I said over her head as she was shorter than me. My chin was above her head. “I do not want to hug you,” she sheepishly said. “Aww, why not?” forming a pouty face. She moved out of my arms and looked up at me and said, “you told me to come over to your place, but you were not there.” “Oh yes, I am sorry,” I apologized, forming a grin on my face. “You are not forgiven,” a smile formed on her lips, wrapping her arms around my waist. “So where are you coming from?” she asked, pulling away from the hug. “I am from the orphanage,” I said, my face serious. She raised her eyebrows questioningly and said, “The orphanage?” “Yes, the orphanage. There is a fundraising taking place.” “Oh, I remember now,” she said, patting my shoulder. Beep! Beep! Beep! We did not realize we were standing in the middle of the road until the sound of the hooter rang in our ears, making us jump to the other side, our hearts skipping a beat. The vehicle moved past us on a high speed, leaving Jennifer and I covered in dust. “Who the hell drives like that?” Jennifer complained, forming a fist as if she would throw it right on my face. “Hey, hey, calm down,” I protested, reaching out my hand on her formed fist. “You are forming a fist as if you can fight someone; you don’t even have strength,” I teased, making us both burst into laughter. Our laughter slowed down when we heard someone clearing his throat behind us. “How are you ladies?” he greeted us. “We are fine, Mr. Royd, how about you?” we replied in unison, turning to face him. “I am fine thanks. Can you please do me a favor?” he asked. “Sure,” I replied, exchanging glances with Jennifer. “Can you please take this folder at my place? You can give it to my daughter; I am sure you will find her,” he said, handing over the folder to me hesitantly. “Uhm, now?” Jennifer chimed in. “No, please, when you are free, you can take it there,” he said, as I accepted the folder from his hands. “Sure, Sir, I will deliver it,” I said, my voice soft and humble. “Thank you,” he turned to leave. “I hate Juliana, I am not going there with you,” Jennifer groaned, stamping her feet like a child. “I know. Don’t worry, I will go alone,” I said, grabbing her hand to leave. Because we stood there for quite a while. …………… “Jennifer came over to see you,” my mother said when I showed up. “She is here with me, mother,” I said, stepping aside to reveal Jennifer's presence. “Oh okay.” Jennifer and I headed to my room; upon entering, her face froze, widening her eyes and mouth. I giggled, pulling her in. “What is that face for?” I teased, her mouth still open in disbelief. “So you are leaving and you couldn’t tell me about it,” she finally managed to bring her mouth together. “Come on, of course that is why I brought you here,” I wrapped my arms around her shoulder. “So where are you going, Liya Christina?” she always called me by my full names every time she was angry. “I got accepted at Softlife Company,” I said, a smile forming on my lips. I did not feel how she escaped my arm, but in a blink of an eye, she was already jumping around. “Are you being serious right now!” she exclaimed in excitement. “yes!” I exclaimed, maintaining the same energy as hers. “I am happy for you,” she hugged me, trying to lift me, but our bodies collided on the bed. How would she have carried someone taller than her? she was too funny. “You are going to meet Mr.Patrick Yab,” she said, as we both trying to catch our breath. “Who is Mr. Patrick Yab?” I asked curiously. “The billionaire. Don’t tell me you do not know him,” she said, sitting upright. “No, why would I? What is so special about him anyway?” I said, brushing my hand above my face. “He is the owner of Softlife Company.” “I had no ideal. I did not do much research.” “You will meet him. I would love to see him in person because he lives a private life; you can’t find him on social media,” she said, her eyes daydreaming. “I don’t care about him anyway,” a smile formed on my lips, as the thought of that strange man rushed to fill my mind. “Why are you smiling?” she asked, staring at me from the corner of her eye. “I think I am in love, Jennifer,” I sat upright, the heat rushing up to my cheeks. Jennifer’s eyes and mouth widened in shock. It was obvious that she did not expect me to fall in love. “You are in love?” she asked in slow motion, making me smile shyly. I nodded my head in response as my lips were overlapped with a smile. “Girl, I cannot believe that you are in love,” she raised her eyebrows teasingly. “But it will fade away soon. I do not even know him; we barely had a small conversation today at the function, but I ran away when he placed his hand over my shoulder,” I shyly said, playing with my fingers. She burst into laughter, making me wonder what was funny.
