Liya***
My feet took me home as fast as they could.
I couldn't see the people I was coming across with, all I wanted was to reach home and relieve my heart from the shock.
I wanted to cry out loud.
But I couldn't, because there were people everywhere.
when I finally opened the main door of the house, my chest tightened within me, a lump formed on my throat, tears fought their way out, Fortunately, no one saw me as they were all having dinner.
We had our meals from the living room which was on the left side of the kitchen.
The entrance to the living room was an n shape and when having meals, we would sit on the far end of the living room.
That's where the table was.
So I walked in and they didn't see me.
"Liya is that you?" My mother shouted from the other end, when she heard the door open.
My mother was a very sensitive woman so there's no way she wouldn't have heard the sound of the door opening.
"Ahem, yes mother it's me," I responded, trying to hide the tremble in my voice.
"Okay, come over here," she shouted.
"Uhm right now mother?"
"Yes, come we eat together."
"Let me just uhm, ahem," I hesitated.
"Baby are you okay?" My mother asked.
"Yes mom, let me just change I will come join you."
"Or you want to have it from your room as you usually do?"
Relief washed over me, because I didn't have to face my mother.
"Sure mother, I would love that," I said, unsure of how I sounded.
"okay my baby, but I hope you are really fine," she said.
"Trust me I am perfect."
"Okay." I left the kitchen and headed to my room.
I finally released the tears from my eyes as I shut the door behind me.
My legs trembled, my heart ached and I just wanted to let it all out.
I lowered myself on the floor beside the bed and grabbed my pillow.
"Finally the one in love is back," I heard Jennifer tease me as she opened the door.
"what's going on there are you on a call," she teased again.
If only she knew how my heart was bleeding at that moment.
I couldn't bring myself to show her my tears because she would make me cry more.
"Anyway I want to hear what you are talking about that you are not responding to me," she said, lowering herself beside me.
"Hey, wait, are you crying?"
I looked up at her only for a second then I buried myself on her shoulder as I threw my hands at the back of her neck.
"Liya, hey what's the matter?" She asked, her voice full of concern.
"Jennifer I...I," I cried out louder than before as I tried to speak.
"Liya it's okay, don't speak. Cry it all out and we can talk later, alright?" She said as she patted my back with her loving hand.
I nodded in response.
She pulled me in closer in her arms as I drowned in my emotional moment.
Being in her arms was only making it worse.
But in no time, I was ready to talk.
I pulled away and looked up at her.
"Oh my God!" Her eyes widened. "What has gotten you to cry this much. Who did this to you?" She asked wiping my tears with her fingers but it was of no use as my tears kept crawling.
"Jennifer, do you remember that man I was telling you about?" I asked in between my sobs.
"You didn't tell me the whole story, so I don't know if I remember," she said, making us both burst into laughter .
A piece of relief settled in my heart at that moment.
I was smiling and I was glad. She was my personal therapist, my daily drug.
"Come on I did," I said, looking down at fingers as I played with them like a little girl.
"Okay then what happened?" She asked, her tone and face being serious again.
"I met him," I said, unable to complete the sentence the scene vividly played in my mind.
"Okay..." She slowly said, understanding what she meant.
"I met him at Juliana's place and Juliana was naked," I cried as I said.
"Oh my god, I am so sorry," she said pulling me in her arms and patting my back.
"Why am I even crying Jennifer?" I asked, pulling away from her arms.
"Come on, it's okay to feel hurt and it's okay to cry
"But I don't want to cry."
"Well I am sorry to break it to you that already you have cried even if you don't want to," she teased provoking the smile to display at the corners of my lips.
"I couldn't help it, they are just flowing on their own," I said, pouting my lips.
"haha, you are so funny even in your disaster moments," she laughed.
"your friend is crying and all you can think of is make fun of me," I said and turned to the other side to give her my back while twisting my arms around each other.
"What else am I supposed to do?" She asked, placing her hands on the back of my shoulders.
"Cry with me."
"Oh please, spare me your jokes."
"Haha."
"I guess you are now in a good state. Tell me what happened."
I turned to her and said, "okay."
"When I went to Juliana's place, I found that man I like, which I was telling you about," I sighed before I could continue.
"Go on," she encouraged.
"Juliana was standing naked in front of him and it's obvious there were from making love," tears flooded my eyes as I spoke.
"Does he know that you like him?" Jennifer asked, giving the serious expression that she would always give me every time we would talk about serious matters.
"No, he doesn't know. I wouldn't even want him to know."
"I am so sorry for what happened. I know how it feels to see someone you like with someone else."
"It hurts Diana. I know I am not supposed to cry but I can't help the pain circling my heart."
"I understand how it feels. But I think you should let it go."
"What should I let go?" I curiously asked.
"Let go of him, let go of whatever you feel for him. You don't know him and you will probably never see him again. So just brush it off," she said.
"You are right I don't know him, I am not even supposed to cry for him. I believe this is just infatuation. In no time it will be gone," I said, unsure of what I was saying but I hoped for it to be true.
"Now that's my girl," she said wrapping her hands around the back of my neck.
"You are sleeping here right?" I asked, faking a wide smile, as I pulled away from her arms.
"Hmm..."
"Come on, please," pouting my lips, I blinked at her continuously, it was something we always did when pleading and it always worked.
"ugh, fine I will stay," finally she accepted and I hugged her.
"Thank you," I said.
"Now you should eat," she said as she stood up.
"Oh yeah I have to eat."
"Let me bring you food. If mother sees your ugly eyes she will be suspicious," she said then we both burst into laughter.
"Okay then, I will let the one with the pretty eyes bring food for the one with the ugly eyes," I said before she opened the door to leave.
Two minutes later, she returned with a plate of rice, having golden fried chicken on the side and salads. I was already salivating before I could even grab the plate.
"Here is your food ugly princess," she teased, placing the food on the bed.
"wait is your stomach rumbling?" She asked, kneeling closer to me.
I turned away from her and said, "No it's not my..." Before I could finish my sentence, my stomach groaned and it was loud.
"Hahahaha," we both laughed.
"Eat now before it explodes."
