CHAPTER 8

1007 Words
PATRICK*** I stood where she had stood earlier. I watched her as she conversed with my guard, Job. She tossed her head in my direction, her face startled as our eyes met. It seemed like she did not expect to meet me again even after numerous times of meeting eyes. Eventually, Job walked towards me and whispered something into my ear; “I have asked her to come, Sir,” he humbly said. I nodded my head in response as she began walking towards me, leading my heartbeat to quicken, pounding against my rib cage. In due time, she came to a stop in front of me, one meter apart, her gaze not able to meet mine. She asked, “Uhm, you called for me?” her melodious voice rung in my ears, making my heart flatter for a reason I did not know. “Oh yeah, uhm I- I …” to my surprise, I stammered, unable to form words out of my mouth as I did not know what to tell her. My heart continued hammering against my chest. For a moment, I thought it was audible. I had to be a gentleman, I had to be confident, so I cleared my throat by coughing as I finally had something to say. “Actually, I remember seeing you back there at the market,” I said, maintaining my composure. “Yes, Sir, I am the one,” she shyly responded. “So you are from around here?” I asked, as what to say kept popping into my mind. “Yes, Sir, I live on the other side of the road, though it is a bit far from here,” she shyly responded, looking down at her fingers. Suddenly, my veins pulled from the angles of my forehead, making my head ache even more, but I had to keep my composure, but I needed help. “I need help,” I asked, feeling the pain even more. “What can I help you with?” she stammered. “I do not know why I have suddenly developed a headache; on top of that, my stomach is aching too. Do you know any shops nearby?” I said, trying to sound reasonable because her glance was making me lose focus on what I was saying. I watched her falling into a trance as she gazed her eyes at me, making their way down my lips. Eventually, a smile formed on her lips, which got me wondering what was going on with her. “Hello, are you okay?” I asked, pulling her out of the trance state. Her eyes widened in shock. She gulped before opening her mouth to say, “uhm, uhm yes I –I,” she stammered, her cheeks flashing red in embarrassment. “Are you sure,” I asked, concern wrapping my heart. “Yes, Sir, I am okay,” she simply responded. ‘If you are not well, you can excuse yourself,” I said, patting her on the shoulder to show her that it was okay to go, but then her reaction startled me, she suddenly said she was unwell and left . Shortly after she left, Juliana began to walk towards me, her smile beginning to form as she finally reached where I stood. I had no escape at that moment. “I am sorry, Sir, about what I said earlier,” she apologized as her smile faded. “It is okay, forget it,” I simply stated, not wanting to hear another word from her. “Thank you, Sir, but if you want it, you are free to come. I will give it to you in full potion,” she said, focusing her eyes on mine seductively. The corner of her lips formed into a smile as she ran her fingers through my chest, making me feel irritated. I threw a warning glance at her, then she stepped back. “Do not dare do that again,” words came out through my gritted teeth, as I angrily warned her. “I apologize for my misconduct; you are just irresistible,” she said, smirking her lips seductively. Her eyes locked with mine. “Leave me alone!” I gritted my teeth, anger fuming over me, but then everything around me suddenly went blank and dark as every energy left within me was ripped off as I felt my body hit on something hard, making me suddenly dream. “Mr. Yab, are you okay? Can you hear me?” a male voice asked, his voice muffled and indistinct. Muffled voices of people were a distant echo, fading in and out of my awareness. “Let us get him up,” a distant voice caught a glimpse of my ear, but I could not fully hear everything nor could I open my eyelids to see what was happening to me. My body felt light, detached from the ground as if I was floating on a cloud, unaware of the hands that held me. The hands felt strong; I guessed it was my bodyguards as they would not have allowed anyone else to touch me. “We need to take him home,” a commanding voice stated, but I was not able to recognize anything. “He is unwell; I think it will not be suitable to drive him a long distance,” a soft female voice suggested. “All the roads are congested; the police have promised to clear the road in four hours,” another one said. Of course, I could not recognize the voice. “While you wait, I volunteer to offer him my house and my room so that he can take some rest,” a female spoke; it sounded like Juliana, though I could not clearly get anything. Suddenly, everything went blank again; not a single thing I was able to hear. 'Am I dead?' I thought. 'Am I in hell?' Thoughts raced in my mind because that was the only thing I was capable of doing.
