Chapter Seven

The air inside our dorm room smelled like a mix of sweet floral perfume, setting spray, and Maya’s endless, chaotic energy. "If Cole Montclaire is going to stare at you tonight, you need to wear something that makes him completely lose his mind," Maya declared, tossing a dress onto my bed. There was no use denying it anymore. They had seen enough. I sat on the edge of the mattress, running my thumb over my phone screen. Cole’s text messages from last night were still sitting there. “Wear something warmer next time. I don’t like other guys looking at your legs.” “And if you let another boy touch what belongs to me again, I’ll have to punish you.” A rebellious spike of stubborn heat flared in my chest. He didn't own me. He didn't get to dictate what I wore, who I talked to, or where I went, especially when he had a whole girlfriend. "I'm wearing this," I said, holding up a sleeveless, form fitting emerald green dress with a low square neckline and a slit that ran high up my left thigh. "Yes!" Maya gasped. "Katy, tell her!" Katy came out of the bathroom, effortlessly stunning in a black midi dress with a dangerous cut out at the back, her red hair swept up into a chic ponytail. She gave me a gentle, cautious smile. "You look gorgeous, Lily. Just... be careful around Cole and Ethan tonight." "Ethan won't even know Alex got us in. Alex told me Ethan explicitly warned him not to give us invites," I said, putting on my gold hoops and finishing with a coat of cherry lip gloss. "You guys look incredible, by the way." Maya twirled appreciatively in her burgundy silk dress, the delicate lace trimmings of the dress sitting right up the middle of her thigh. She looked both wildly sexy and classy. Half an hour later, our Uber pulled up to the Westmore Hockey House. The three story dark brick mansion was thumping with bass heavy music, vibrating the pavement beneath our shoes. Students holding red cups spilled out onto the front porch. As promised, Alex was near the front door, waving the three of us right past the guy checking invites. "Thanks, Alex," I called out over the noise. "Don't make me regret it," Alex replied smoothly, sipping from his cup. He looked over at our outfits, winced slightly, but said nothing. Maya immediately dragged Katy and me toward the kitchen bar. We hadn't even reached the counter when Ethan walked past, holding a red cup and talking to a few line mates. "Lily?" Ethan stopped, his brow furrowing as his hazel eyes narrowed on the three of us. "How the hell did you get in here?" "Alex," I replied instantly with a sweet, innocent smile. Ethan closed his eyes for a brief second, cursing Alex under his breath. "Of course he did. Stay in the main room, drink soda, and do not wander off. Got it?" "Yes, Dad,"I rolled my eyes. He muttered something that sounded like ‘unbelievable’ before walking away. At least he didn’t give Katy any trouble. Before he could take two steps, a slim blonde girl, who had been blatantly eyeing our conversation the entire time, stepped directly into his path and deliberately tipped her red cup, spilling her drink all over the floor. It looked entirely intentional, and Ethan clearly noticed it too. He shot her a single, razor sharp look of pure irritation and walked right past her without a word. A wave of muffled giggles erupted from the surrounding crowd, leaving the girl standing there with her face burning bright red in embarrassment. I turned, and froze. Cole stood near the grand staircase. He looked devastatingly handsome in a fitted grey t-shirt that highlighted his sharp jawline and broad shoulders. Standing directly in front of him, her hand resting possessively on his chest, was Emily. She was wearing his team jacket over her shoulders, laughing and leaning in close enough for her lips to brush his cheek. A sharp, unwanted surge of jealousy burned right through my chest. He spent his nights trailing my dorm, sending me possessive texts, and threatening other guys, yet here he was, letting Emily mark her territory in front of the entire party. His dirty little secret. Watch me, Cole. Cole's eyes flicked over Emily's shoulder and locked directly onto mine. His expression instantly turned stone-cold. His dark eyes dragged down my green dress, taking in every single inch of exposed skin, before snapping back to my face. The jaw muscle in his cheek clenched violently. Oh, so you don't like my dress, Montclaire? Good. I snapped my gaze away from him, grabbed a cup from the counter, and turned to Maya. "Let's dance." "Now you're talking!" Maya squealed, dragging Katy and me into the center of the crowded living room. The bass vibrated through the wooden floorboards. I let myself get lost in the music, swaying my hips and throwing my head back. Within two minutes, a tall guy stepped into my space, moving to the rhythm right behind me. I turned to look at him, he had brown hair and sharp blue eyes, looking decent enough. Instead of backing away like I usually would, I stayed right where I was. I threw a petty, defiant glance toward the staircase. Cole had completely abandoned Emily. He was standing at the edge of the dance floor, his eyes dark with an unadulterated, lethal fury that sent a violent chill straight down my spine. The tall guy reached out, his hands resting on my waist to spin me around. "I'm Marcus," he grinned, leaning down. "What's your name, beautiful?" Before I could answer, a heavy hand clamped down on Marcus's shoulder. Cole didn't even speak. He yanked Marcus backward so hard the guy slammed violently into a group of frat boys, spilling drinks everywhere. "Hey, what the f**k, man…" Marcus started, but the moment he realized it was Cole Montclaire, the words died in his throat. “Cole, what are you doing?!” Emily shouted from the edge of the crowd. Cole ignored her entirely. In one swift, terrifying movement, his large hand wrapped around my waist, yanking me against his hard chest before dragging me through the crowd. "Cole, let me go!" I hissed, thrashing against his grip as he pulled me down a dimly lit side hallway. People were watching, whispering, but Cole didn't care. I couldn’t see Maya, but I caught one glimpse at Katy, Her eyes were wide with worry, she looked like she was deciding whether she should follow or not. I shook my head at her not to. I didn’t want her to get in trouble because of me. Cole shoved open the heavy oak door to a dark, quiet room, hauled me inside, and slammed the door shut, locking it the second we got in. The room was dark except for the moonlight spilling through the towering windows, painting silver lines across the wooden floor. Before I could even catch my breath, Cole backed me violently against the locked door. His massive frame completely boxed me in, both of his hands slamming against the wood on either side of my head. His heavy chest rose and fell rapidly, the oppressive heat radiating off his body suffocating me in the dark. "What did I tell you last night, Lilybug?" his voice dropped into a low, dangerous growl against my lips. "What did I tell you would happen if you let another boy touch you?" "You don't own me, Cole!" I gasped, placing my palms flat against his chest, feeling his heart hammering wildly under his shirt. "You were just standing there with Emily! You have no right…" "I don't give a damn about Emily," he rasped, his hand sliding down my arm to grip my waist, his long fingers digging into the silk of my dress right at the slit on my thigh. "I told you to wear something warmer.” his voice dropped, I could hear a tinge of frustration in his voice “You knew what it would do to me” "I wore it because I wanted to," I mumble quietly. "Liar," he laughed, low, broken. "You looked at me before you stepped onto that dance floor. You wanted to drive me crazy..." He dipped his head, his lips grazing the sensitive spot right beneath my jaw, sending a filthy, forbidden shiver straight down my spine. "And it's working. It’s f*****g working. I'm f*****g losing it, Lily. I know I'm supposed to stay away from you, but I can't. I can't, Lily. You drive me f*****g crazy." The frustration was clear in his voice now, he wasn’t even masking it. No, no, no, Lily, I told myself desperately. Don’t let his words get to you. My breath hitched, my hands gripping his shirt to keep from melting right there against the wood. BANG! BANG! BANG! Heavy fists rattled the door from the outside. "Cole? You in there?" Ethan's voice boomed from the hallway, sharp and demanding. "The guys said you dragged some girl in here. Open up!" My blood ran completely ice cold. My eyes went wide with pure terror. Cole didn't even flinch. Before I could make a sound, his big hand snapped up, covering my mouth completely, pinning my back firmly to the door while his body pressed tightly against mine in the dark. "Quiet," Cole breathed directly against my ear, his thumb tracing my lower lip over his palm. "Not a f*****g sound, little Lily." Outside, Ethan knocked again. "You alive?" "Go away, Ethan," Cole called lazily "I’m busy." His eyes locked directly onto mine in the dark as his free hand slid beneath the fabric of my dress, resting right over my panties. He was completely shameless. My brother was standing less than two inches away on the other side of the door, and he still wouldn’t stop. "Hurry up with whatever you're doing, man. Coach is here, he wants everyone downstairs," Ethan responded dismissively from the hallway before his heavy footsteps began to fade away down the corridor. I looked up at Cole. A slow, dark smirk curved his lips, his fingers slipping beneath the lace of my panties. "That's my good girl," he purred low against my ear. "I think you deserve a little reward." My breath caught in my throat as I felt his finger slip smoothly inside me.
