Some people stand right in front of you…
Yet it feels impossibly far away.
The air was quiet.
A soft spring breeze drifted through the fields, carrying the sweet scent of blooming flowers.
It was intoxicating.
Taesun closed his eyes for a moment, breathing it in.
He loved flowers.
Not just for their beauty—
But for the peace they brought.
To him, they weren't just plants.
They were something… closer.
In the distance, farmers worked tirelessly across the wide fields.
Planting. Watering. Caring.
Simple. Honest.
He liked watching them.
There was something calming about people who lived with purpose.
"…I'm a little tired," he muttered.
Pulling his hat down over his face, he lay back.
Just as sleep began to take over—
"Sir… siiiir…"
His brows furrowed.
"Hm… what is it now?" he said lazily.
The girl leaned closer, smiling brightly.
"Let's have lunch together."
"No."
The answer came instantly. Cold.
"I'm not having lunch with you."
Her smile faltered.
"… Why do you always reject me?"
Taesun exhaled sharply.
"Don't you have anything better to do?" he said, his tone turning sharp.
"If you keep following me, I'll have no choice but to tell your father."
Silence.
Then—
Her eyes glistened.
"Go ahead," she said quietly.
"I don't care anymore."
She lifted her head, determination flickering in her gaze.
"I'm not going to stop."
Her voice trembled.
"Don't you realize… how serious I am about you?"
And then—
She turned and walked away.
Upset. Hurt.
But Tae-sun…
didn't move.
Lying there beneath his hat, he remained completely still.
As if emotions…
As if the entire world…
No longer mattered to him.
The workday had ended.
Employees slowly began leaving the company building.
"So, Gi-woo… how was your first day?" Sunao asked.
"It was good," she smiled softly.
"Actually… I should be thanking you."
Sunho grinned.
"Then treat me to dinner."
"Deal," she laughed.
"Let's go."
They walked toward the exit, joking and laughing together.
From above—
Daniel watched them.
His gaze was heavy.
"… They look happy," he whispered.
Even after Gi-woo disappeared from sight…
He couldn't look away.
"If only you knew…" he murmured, barely audible,
"How much I wish I were in his place."
They arrived at a café.
Yumi joined them shortly after.
The three laughed, talked, and shared their meal.
Teasing each other, bumping shoulders playfully.
Warm.
Simple.
Alive.
From outside the window—
Daniel watched.
Minutes passed.
Or maybe hours.
He didn't know.
He didn't even remember how he got there.
It was as if his feet had brought him here on their own—
Only to follow her.
Inside—
"How is it? Working at a big company?" Yumi asked excitedly.
"It's nice," Gi-woo replied.
"Still new… but I like it."
"What about your boss?" Yumi leaned forward, curious.
"What's he like?"
"… He's Sunao's brother."
"What?!" Yuma gasped.
"For real?!"
Sunao chuckled.
"Yeah."
"Then is he as handsome as you?" she asked, eyes wide.
Sunao and Gi-woo burst into laughter.
"Why are you laughing?" Yuma frowned.
"Because you only ever think about guys," Sunao teased.
Yumi rolled her eyes.
"What can I say? I like handsome men," she said shamelessly.
"Tell me about him."
Ji-woo paused.
"…I don't really know him yet," she admitted.
"But… he's very serious."
"Unlike Sunho?" Yumi smirked.
"Very unlike him," Ji-woo said.
Sunho laughed.
"Yeah… my brother isn't exactly the talkative type."
Yumi leaned in again.
"Does he have a girlfriend?"
Sunao shook his head.
"Not that I know of. I've never seen him interested in anyone."
Outside—
Daniel heard everything.
His chest tightened.
"Sir… where to now?" the driver asked.
Daniel closed his eyes.
"…Take me home."
Meanwhile—
Gi-woo's mother waited at home.
The doorbell rang.
She hurried to open it.
"You're home?" she asked warmly.
"… Yeah," Jae-sung replied weakly.
"I made dinner," she said gently.
"Okay…"
He walked in slowly and sat down.
His face was pale.
"What's wrong?" she asked, worry rising.
"I'm fine… just a little…" he trailed off.
"No—you're not fine," she said, her voice trembling.
"I'm calling the doctor right now!"
Her hands shook as she grabbed the phone.
"Doctor, please come quick—"
And then—
Jae-sung's head tilted to the side.
His eyes closed.
He collapsed.
"Jae-sung!!!" she screamed.
Panic filled her voice.
"Open your eyes… please…!"
