Episode 9: Ten Years Later — A Familiar Stranger (Rewritten)

691 Words
Ten years had passed. Time moved forward. It always does. It carried away the pain. The memories. The broken pieces of the past. Or at least… That’s what it looked like. Because some wounds don’t heal. They don’t disappear. They hide. Waiting. … “Good morning, Director.” A sleek black car stopped smoothly in front of the building. Morning light reflected off the glass walls, casting sharp shadows across the entrance. The door opened. And he stepped out. Daniel Han. The atmosphere shifted instantly. Employees straightened. Conversations stopped. “Good morning, Director Han.” He didn’t slow down. Didn’t smile. Only a slight nod—cold and distant. Untouchable. His presence alone was enough to silence the surrounding space. Sharp features. Dark, unreadable eyes. Perfect. But far away. Everything about him said one thing— Don’t get close. “Secretary Yun.” “Yes, sir.” “Your schedule.” “Meeting with investors at ten. Interviews in the afternoon. Dinner with the board tonight.” Daniel nodded once. “Good.” They stepped into the private elevator. Silence settled between them. Then— “Sir… I have a request.” Daniel’s gaze shifted slightly. “Speak.” “I’m getting older. It’s becoming difficult to keep up. I think… it may be time to hire a new secretary.” A pause. “You know my standards.” “Yes, sir.” “They don’t stay long.” “I understand.” A quiet breath escaped Yun. “But working with you… has been an honor.” Daniel remained still. “We’ll discuss it later.” The elevator doors opened. And the moment passed. … Across the city— Gi-woo sat by the window of a bus, watching the world blur past her. Her reflection stared back. Calm. But distant. Lost. Her phone rang suddenly. “Ji-woo! Where are you?!” Yuma's voice shook. “Yumi? What happened?” “Can you come… please?” Something felt wrong. “I’m on my way.” … The door opened— And Yumi immediately threw herself into Gi-woo’s arms. Crying. “My boyfriend broke up with me!” Gi-woo sighed softly. “That’s it? I thought something serious happened.” “Hey!” “I’m not laughing.” “You are!” Gi-woo patted her shoulder. “Come on. Stop crying.” “I hate him!” “Sure you do.” “Let’s drink,” Yumi said suddenly. “I want to forget everything.” Gi-woo hesitated for a second. “Fine.” “You know I’ll find someone better anyway.” “You always say that.” Yuma crossed her arms. “You never take me seriously!” “That’s because you’re not serious.” Silence. Then— “What about you?” Yuma asked. Ji-woo paused. Looked away. “I got fired.” “What?!” “It’s nothing.” “How is that nothing?” Gi-woo forced a small smile. “My boss was… strange.” Yumi frowned. “Then it’s good you left.” Ji-woo nodded. “Yeah… maybe.” But something in her eyes— Said it wasn’t that simple. … “Did you call me, sir?” “Come in.” Secretary Yun stepped inside Daniel’s office. The space was quiet. Minimal. Cold. “I wanted to thank you,” Daniel said calmly. “You’ve supported me all these years.” “That was my duty.” Knock. The door opened before Yun could respond. A woman walked in. Beautiful. Confident. Dangerous. “Hi, darling… were you waiting for me?” The air changed instantly. Heavier. Colder. Daniel’s gaze sharpened. Just slightly. “…Seorin.” And for the first time— Something in his expression shifted. Barely visible. But real. … Somewhere in the same city— Two paths were moving closer. Slowly. Inevitably.
