Ember’s POV When I came out of the building, I saw the cars lined up, and Alpha Vander leaning on one of them, his legs crossed. I approached him and bowed, his face emotionless. “I must have taken a lot of time.” He didn't say a word to me, but only walked away from the car. One of the guards rushed over and opened the car door with a bow and I stepped in majestically. Even though I am an omega, I had class…Yes, I said it. My mother was hardworking enough to provide me with anything I needed. I worked my ass off too in helping her just to make ends meet, until I met Uston. Although he dumped me, I won't deny the fact that he took care of me so well that one would think I was a higher rank werewolf. Uston made sure to provide me with classic things, and I think that's when I developed my high taste which made me insist on getting a company job to assist myself financially…only to fall into the hands of my mother's enemy. I wonder how she would feel when she comes to know what happened. I blame myself for not listening to her at first…or should I even blame her for not telling me the truth in the start? If she hadn't hidden it all from me, I would have been extremely careful and wouldn't have even accepted Uston as my boyfriend in the start. “We are almost late, so do all you can to speed it up.” His voice pulled my gaze towards him, and then he shut the door, sat beside me. I stretched my lips and gasped. It was kinda suffocating. It could have been better if we had used different cars since he had lots of them. Staying with his guards would be better. The ride to the venue of the conference was just serene. Neither of us said a thing to each other….and I even prayed that he doesn't glance at me. He was finally unleashing the demon that people said he had on me, because my mother was the cause of him being possessed by that demon. As the car came to a stop, he turned to me, for the first time since we entered the car. “Behave yourself in there. I don't share my things with anyone…even my enemy.” A lump formed in my throat. Was he scared I would draw the attention of another alpha? My face twisted as I alighted through the other door which a guard had opened. My steps were deliberate and filled with authority. Having brought me here just after his coronation showed that he was going to introduce his Luna to the other alpha kings. We stepped into the spacious hall and were offered our seats, and in minutes, the meeting began. At first, I thought I was going to be the only woman in their midst, but it happened that Lunas all came with their alphas, so it was the norm for him to come with me. When his dear Camila takes my place, she will be the one to always show up. But, wouldn't it cause commotion? Won't they be perplexed by the sudden switch of women? Or, was he planning to lie that he divorced me? That could be it…nothing else. At a time I didn't expect, he stood up and cleared his throat. “Congratulations to me. I am now an alpha king, and although this isn't my first meeting here, I feel so different today. Not just as an alpha king, but with my Luna, Ember Cyril.” His voice stretched, then he put on a smile. “I hope Alpha Abel will stop calling me GAY from now on.” They all burst into laughter, and then he took his seat. I too couldn't help but put on a smile….not sure if it was a pretense or a real smile, but I got to act real right? “What if she isn't your real luna?” one of the alphas spoke, and everywhere went cold. “We all know the lady we were expecting as your luna.” Camila… She's the one they expected. I glanced at him, but he wore a cynical smile. “Could you prove that he isn't my real Luna, Alpha Abel?” That same Alpha? What the f**k is even wrong with him? Was he up to something? But truth be told, air left my lungs. I was freaking that the so-called alpha Abel would provide a proof, and I'm sure he would be dethroned within twenty-four hours if such a thing happens, and all my endurance to see that this role is done perfectly would be in vain. He would even pounce his anger on me, and would blame me for it. Alpha Abel knitted his brows and folded his arms, “I don't need to provide proof. Let's just watch the truth come out itself.” When I took a glance at him, he scoffed at the alpha and shrugged his shoulders. “You've always been a thorn in my flesh. If you have your eyes on her, I'll roast you alive. Do not betray the alpha-hood.” Alpha Vander stated, a thin line formed on his lips. He turned his eyes on me, and I held my breath, trying as much as I could not to look away like the other times. “Ember is my mate…” “But she's an omega. Such a rank doesn't fit royalty.” Alpha Abel snapped at him. He chuckled, but I could see a flicker of rage across his face. My wolf snarled continuously. “Who cares about rank when she's my mate? I'm not the type who throws rejection like finding a mate is so easy. If not my mate, no one would take the Luna position…” My eyes almost bulged, but I plastered a huge smile across my face like I agreed with his words. I knew so well he was playing with my feelings and fooling the other alphas. He adjusted the hair on my face behind my ear and added, “Do not cross the line, Abel.” How the other alphas watched the argument stunned me. They must be like this all these years, or, were they scared of either of them? I caressed my hair and inhaled a deep breath. “Lunas are dismissed!” came from the head executive alpha. As the other lunas stood, I too did not hesitate. The seat was already too hot for me and having Vander at my side was another type of hell itself. I picked up my purse and walked out of my seat, but he held back my left hand…and the next thing was a kiss on the back of my palm. Goddess! My chest almost burst. This sweet stuff of his was getting out of hand. It's not like it was going to continue this way. These two days should just come to an end. “Wait in the guest room,” he muttered and I faked a smile and nodded. As I raised my face, my eyes landed on Alpha Abel. Blood drained from his face, but I quickly looked away and made use of the door. If only that alpha knew I was truly fake….he wouldn't be killing himself this way. One of the lunas stopped me as I walked out. She wore a bright smile, gazing at me like we had anything in common. “Hi, my name is Rita. I am Alpha Abel’s Luna,” she uttered, stretching her hands towards me. Alpha Abel's Luna, and she had the guts to stop me? What for?
