Ember’s POV

I stiffened for a while, staring back at him, until my wolf yelped at me.

‘Can't you see they are watching?’ she growled and I immediately picked myself up.

My lips stretched lightly into a smile, “No, Alpha…” I responded to him, brows furrowed.

He scoffed, his arm still wrapped around me as he opened the car door and had me step in, then he shut it himself.

In there, a knot twisted in my guts. I fumbled with my dress, anxiety shielding my space.

What does he mean by that? It's not like someone heard us, so he clearly meant what he said to me and not because of someone. Is that why he told the guards to leave?

Sweat formed on my forehead and I took a hard gulp.

He stepped into the car and slammed his door, then his eyes swept over mine. “Panicking? Scared it would hurt? Then get rid of your f*****g scent and quit arousing me….” he pulled a long face before starting the car. “Missed your mom?”

I quickly moistened my lips, “I do, but….”

“Let's see if she's okay to get punished by my authority.” he caught me short and zoomed off.

My heart thumped and thumped. Sweat concealed my palms regardless of the air conditioner. I couldn't even take my eyes off his face, like he would hurt me if I did.

Does he mean my scent was arousing him or was he joking? How can my wolf scent do that? Even if we are mates, should it….

“Trying to read my mind?” his voice made me flinch.

I exhaled and shook my head.

Honestly, I was waiting for him to begin the f*****g…..but he never made an advance until we drove to the hospital and he parked at the garage.

“Get down. I'm not your f*****g guard…” he growled and unlocked the door from his end.

I didn't hesitate. I just hopped down from the car like nothing had happened. I knew that he did lead me in at the hall because of the eyes pinned on us.

He came over and led the way into the hospital building, and he made inquiries about my mother being moved to the VIP ward he paid for.

When we reached the ward, he swiped a black card across the scanner and it opened, then we walked in.

“Ember?!”

My eyes flew wide upon hearing that voice.

“Hannah…!!!” I responded and hurried towards her. She threw her arms around me. “Goddess, I missed you so much….”

She patted my back, “Looks like I made the right decision. I wanted to postpone my visit until tomorrow, but my wolf was restless. We missed you so much.”

I tapped her cheek, winking at her.

She understood instantly and turned towards the Alpha, then bowed respectfully. “Your Majesty, long live. I am Hannah, Ember's best friend.”

He gazed at me, then back at Hannah, “And what did she ever tell you about me?”

Hannah scoffed, "She's convinced me that she has a boyfriend who takes good care of her mum, and I can see it. I've been here for hours, chatting with her. She just dozed off a few minutes back. The nurses said she's recuperating so fast. You must have spent a lot for my friend's sake.” she bowed again. “Thank you so much, Alpha King.”

I bit my tongue, not sure how to feel. I was in hell for the recuperation of my mother…

Was I really? Maybe not yet. But I'm going to become a slave and it won't be funny.

“So, you also stay in the remote town?” Alpha Vander walked towards my mother's bed.

Hannah nodded cheerfully, “Yes Alpha. We are childhood friends.”

My chest tightened. I only hoped he wasn't planning to harm Hannah and drag her into this.

“Very well. You're going to miss your friend and her mum from now on, because they will stay in the palace. You two can video chat if you miss each other so badly. It will take the moon goddess’s grace for you to visit her in the palace.” Alpha Vander, while adjusting his wrist watch, stated as if everything was okay.

I knew deep down what he meant.

“It's no issue. I trust you to take care of them. Maybe, when she gives birth, I can come stay with her for some time and help take care of her. That's if I don't conceive too because I'm getting married soon.” Hannah said back to him like they were friends.

I chuckled and released a deep breath.

Of course, Hannah will be getting married soon. Her boyfriend is the best thing that has ever happened to her. But it's a pity that I might not be there.

“I hope you will permit her to be at my wedding and mating ceremony?” Hannah walked close to him.

He gazed at her and nodded, “Until then. Just send the invitation on time….” Then his gaze landed on mine.

I cleared my throat and walked to my mother. Her face wasn't pale like it was when I left for the interview. She was indeed recuperating so fast.

Later on, he left the ward and I spent about an hour with Hannah in the ward. When my mum woke up, we chatted too and I told her of the alpha king taking care of her bills…..But I made sure to hide the main point, but my mother was sceptical about it.

“Olivander is the son of the late alpha king of the Star furs pack, and you are seriously saying you are good with him?” my mother interjected.

I faked a smile, knowing where she was heading.

“Some privacy, Hannah.” I winked at her and she stood and left the ward. Then I turned to my mum, “What do you think is the reason he's taking us into the palace? Are you scared of something?”

I was only trying to get those words off her lips, but still, she didn't say a thing. She only stared at me for seconds and chuckled.

“I hope he loves you….”

“Yes, he does.” Bitterness clung to my throat. Since she decides to keep hiding it, it would be better if I don't mention it. “Recover quickly, so I can see you every day there.”

She patted my cheek, "Don't worry.”

Later on, Alpha Vander came in. At first, his gaze on my mother was cold, but then he brightened his face. He exchanged pleasantries with my mother and assured her he would take good care of me.

Unexpectedly, he handed Hannah a check.

“My wedding gift to you. Thank you for keeping her company until I met her.” Alpha Vander stated, and that alone made my mother sigh in relief.

I loved the way she felt that moment. It was better than her getting worried when she wasn't completely healed.

Hannah was so overjoyed. She came to me and whispered, "He's better than Uston. It's all thanks to the goddess he dumped you for good.”

I giggled, my heart wavering.

Is it all good? Only if she knew I was in a hot stew.

We took our leave minutes later, my heart throbbed against my ribcage. I tried to guess what he would talk about when we got into the car….But I couldn't imagine.

My mind spun.

He started the car without saying a thing and drove off the hospital compound. Feeling haunted, I said to him, “Are you really going to allow me to go to her wedding? Or, did you bribe her with the check?”

He threw a heavy glare at me and hit the brakes forcefully, parking at the side of the road. “Is that what you should care about now?”

“Huh?” My eyes widened, but he loosened his seatbelt. “Uhm, I didn't mean…..

“It could have been better if you shut the f**k off and let me concentrate,” he growled at me, getting off his wristwatch.

Hot saliva formed in my mouth.

He leaned closer to me and unbuckled my seatbelt. I glanced at the glasses and scowled. It was tinted…no one outside would be able to see us.

“b***h, aren't you grateful that your mother is awake?”

I licked my lips, “I am not capable of getting such a grace from you, Alpha king.”

“But you're capable of making me hard. Isn't it?”

My eyes landed on his face, dominating, chilly…

I bit my inner lip, my c**t quivered and I tightened my entrance. My moisture dropped on my panties. His stares made my wolf whimper…

“Moaning loudly will look good on you. What do you say?” he whispered and I clenched my fingers into a fist. “Worry not about the car. It's not just bulletproof, but soundproof…..”

His fingers were already caressing my thighs, slowly lifting my dress.

“Your p***y smells so good, b***h! Or, are you f*****g dripping already?”

A lump formed in my throat. My legs were stupidly parting for him.
