Chapter 8 When she woke, it was to magic, sparking like crazy. She was slumped against Jabari, on Wind, galloping down the road in a headlong rush. The trees stood on either side of the road like rangers, and for a moment Isika relaxed, her head fuzzy, feeling the sparks as a sort of pleasant buzz, before she remembered what had happened. She sat forward with a gasp, causing Wind to skip sideways, nearly stumbling as the horse realized she was awake. “Wait—Isika, don’t,” Jabari said, but he didn’t finish because they pulled up at the palace steps and Isika nearly threw herself off her horse, sliding down his flank, peering into his face to make sure he was all right.
