I followed him in silence, my thoughts racing. The night air felt colder now, the shadows stretching longer. My heartbeat had finally started to settle, but my mind wouldn’t. Who were those people who attacked me? Were they just random threats lurking in the woods, or had they been after me? And more importantly—why? His words echoed in my head. You have no idea who you are. And until you do, there are things you’re better off not knowing. I clenched my fists. I hated this. Hated feeling like a clueless outsider in a world that was supposed to be mine. Ahead, he moved with that same effortless control, as the night itself bent around him. He hadn’t spoken again, and I didn’t know if I wanted him to. But I needed answers. “Who were they?” I asked, my voice quieter than I intended.
