Evie sat in the corner of the living room at her homey little computer desk. Her workstation was deceiving. Though it was humble, she could do all sorts of things there. She never talked about her gift with computers, except with Tamara. She didn’t want to sound conceited. So far, she’d collected over five hundred thousand dollars from businesses around the world. She broke into their computers, took a little here and there and was out before they could trace her. She either worked from a remote computer or changed her settings every time to reflect a made-up name and password. She was good, no doubt about it. She loved the acumen it took to hack and never get caught. The excitement of taking what she’d not earned always thrilled her. She was smarter than the system. She’d proved that.
