Chapter 18: Psycho

1269 Words
Why is he calling? No. How does he have my number? Did I give it to him back then? I should have, right? Why else would I be changing his caller ID to psycho? No. I should think about that later. I need to know why he is calling me first. Should I answer? But I'm too pissed to even hear his voice. With my constant overthinking, the phone call that has been vibrating nonstop came to a halt, then the room turned silent once again. Opps. I didn't realize I was thinking for too long. He won't get mad, right? What is his affection level right now? What if it turns to negative!? Before I could even press the call button to make up for my mistake, the phone vibrated for the second time. It was still psycho. This time, I answered it more quickly to not make him mad. I can't possibly die without even seeing his affection level. "He-Hello?" I stuttered. However, the other line remained silent. Did he not hear me? "Hell—" "Hey." A voice. It was the same voice from earlier, but his voice sounded deeper right now. "You called?" "...." Uhm. What is his problem? He was the one who called, and yet he's not even answering? Should I just end the ca— "Why aren't you reading the messages?" What? Message? What is he talking about? "You sent me a message?" I asked, bewildered from his question. I mean, why would he send me a message in the first place? I don't even remember a single conversation between the two of us. So what is he talking about? "...." "Hello?" The other line was silent again. Is his phone broken or something? He says a word then go silent, not even elaborating what he's talking about. What does he expect me to do? Does he want me to guess his intentions? "Tell the professor you are leaving the group." And he hung up. What the heck is his problem??? How could he be so rude after calling me twice? I was literally here, worried that his affection level might turn to negative, and he just acts however he want? If not for the system, I wouldn't even think of answering his call! What was he even talking about earlier? Tell the professor to leave the group? What on earth is he— Wait. Leave the group? I immediately checked my messages when I saw a group chat. There were a total of 4 people, including me. I checked the message, and it seems like they have been talking for some time now. Is this the messages he was talking about? I mean, it's true that I have been distracted the whole time and even failed to check my messages, but does he really have to be so rude? I was distracted earlier in class because of him! And I couldn't check the messages immediately because of Lyra. It's not like I refused to cooperate. I grumbled as I scrolled up to read all of their texts. The one who created this group chat was a girl named Kate. And the one who added me was.... Draven? Hmm. Well, it's actually reasonable. Looking at my friend's list, I only have my father, Lyra, and psycho. With no other friends or acquaintance, no one would be able to add me aside from Draven. Should I be grateful? But what's weird is the fact that even Darius, whom I'm sure, had already started pursuing me, was still not on my friend's list. I actually don't remember much about when he started to ask me out. But based on our conversation earlier, I can tell that we already spoke at least twice. Maybe it hasn't been a week? I don't even remember when I gave him my number, or if he was the one who gave it to me. But right now, Darius and I are not that close since he's still not on my friend's list. And, I have no intention of getting his. Should I also delete Lyra's? We don't really need to call each other when we live in the same house. More importantly, I don't remember her ever calling me in my past life. So I should just block her number and delete it. I should probably do the same to father. It's not like he would really care if something happens to me. I don't think there is also any reason for him to text me. So then what's left is... Yeah. The psycho's number. I should probably not delete this. I may hate him, but I can't change the fact that he is my target. But maybe I can talk to the system? But then again, I have no idea how to summon it at all. I returned my attention to the group chat. I read it one by one. "Hello everyone! I'm Kaithlyn Jones, but you can just call me Kate for short." "I'm Jiho Mhorville. It's nice to meet you all." "How about the other two?" "Draven." "Hi Draven!" "Who's the last member?" "Caelia Moon." "Oh really? I think we are so lucky to have both the 1st and 2nd of the entire campus on the group." "So what's the plan?" "Let's meet tomorrow, I know a cafe that's really quiet. We can discuss our topic and divide tasks. What do you guys say?" "I'm up!" "Draven?" "Hmm." "Alright. How about Caelia?" "...." "Caelia?" "Let's end the conversation. We'll meet tomorrow at the cafe." "Oh— sure!" "Alright. Goodnight guys!" —————— Wow. Is he my spokesperson or something? I mean, I'm grateful, but why would he tell me to leave the group? How rude. I hesitated for a moment. Staring at my phone, I sat back to my bed. He acted so cold towards me, telling me to just leave the group if I keep getting distracted. He even rolled his eyes on me earlier, then sat at the farthest seat. But when it comes to other people, he never talked bad about me. He didn't even tell them they should not get their hopes up for me. He also answered their questions for me, and did not humiliate me on the group chat. Maybe he's not so bad, after all? As my thanks, I'll just text him to make peace. I can't anger my target. Moreover, there may be a chance that we would grow close. Maybe I can even use this opportunity to gain his favor. We can't stay enemies forever. And it's not like our relationship is the worst. We just so happen to compete over the top 1. If he want, I can even give that up. As long as my grades are not a mess, then I can offer that much so that I can increase his affection meter. I had no pride in the first place, so what's there to hesitate? Let's just apologize and make things right. "Sorry." "And thanks." Did he read it? I looked at the message, and thankfully, he read it. I waited for a response, but even after 2 minutes, there was still nothing. Is he already asleep? Did his phone automatically read my message or did he read it but forgot to reply? Or maybe... Is he actually going to kick me out? Suddenly, a DING filled the silence that lasted for 2 minutes straight, I looked at the phone. Ah— a reply came. Without waiting, I immediately opened the chat box and read his reply. "Crazy." You!!
