“Wait, are you crazy?” Mrs. Sydney asked in surprise at what Mrs. Rebecca had done.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Rebecca took the glass and hid it inside her apron, just before Scott, Killian’s brother, entered the dining hall.
“You're home, did you eat?” Mrs. Sydney asked, smiling sheepishly.
“I had a late lunch”. Scott replied coldly.
“That'll ruin your health from now on…..” She was still talking when he rudely interrupted her.
“Who cleaned my room today?” He asked.
“I did”. One of the servants replied
“Clean it again. I'd like a glass of water sent to my study.” He said coldly as he left the dining hall, while the servant hurried out to get his room cleaned again as requested.
“Go to the basement, and bring me the same wine in a new glass to my room”. Mrs. Sydney said coldly to Mrs. Rebecca
“You should eat a bit more”. Mrs. Rebecca wrote in her book and showed it to Mrs. Sydney
“Mrs. Rebecca, if I eat anything even after being ridiculed like this, I admit that I am a concubine. A true wife of a rich man can't eat in situations like this. Please throw everything away”. She said as she left the dining hall.
“You're still a concubine regardless of whether you eat or not. A concubine who eats well is better than a concubine who drinks a lot”. Mrs. Rebecca said in her thoughts.
…
Mrs. Rebecca took the whole food home and displayed it in front of Claire for them to eat. Claire kept staring at the food and her mom in surprise.
“What? What's wrong? Mrs. Sydney gave it to us. Just eat it without complaining”. Mrs. Rebecca said to Claire, using her hands to demonstrate as she couldn't speak.
“Do I need to eat everything we get from Mrs. Sydney? I am not a garbage can for food waste”. Claire said sharply.
“What's the big deal? Eating is the most important thing in life. We should be grateful that we’re able to eat something like this”. Mrs. Rebecca replied as she demonstrated with her hands.
“It's not my fault that we’re poor. You can eat by yourself”. Claire said as she walked away, grabbed her book, and kept flipping through the pages.
“Selfish brat. She's having a blast all by herself”. She said as she looked at her sister's picture sitting on the table.
“I'm not going to eat”. She said as she backed the door when her mom came in.
Her mom sat down and dropped a book on the ground where Claire was sitting. She hit Claire so hard on her back because she refused to turn and look at her.
“Okay, I won't take food from that house again. What time does your part-time job start tomorrow? I need to go to the bank”. Mrs. Rebecca demonstrated with her hands
“How many times did I tell you to use online banking? Tell me and I will do it”. Claire said softly.
“It's better to take care of it at the bank. How is a computer going to send money to the US?” Mrs. Rebecca said as she kept demonstrating with her hands.
“The US? Are you going to send it to Natalie?” Claire asked in surprise.
“Send her what's in the bank account”. Mrs. Rebecca demonstrated again
Claire flipped through the pages of the book her mom brought and shouted in surprise “You're going to send the entire thing to her? Why? Is there a problem?”
“Tell her to buy herself a closet or something. Natalie is getting married”. Mrs. Rebecca said as she kept demonstrating.
“What? She's getting married?” Claire shouted in awe at what she had just heard.
…
“I'm getting remarried”. Mrs. Sandra said to Catherine, her daughter
“What? You just divorced Dad. Isn't it too soon for you to get remarried?” Catherine asked her mom in surprise.
“I've been single long enough”. Mrs. Sandra replied as she flipped through the pages of the book in front of her.
“Does dad know?” Catherine asked.
“Do you want him to congratulate me? There will be articles about it, so your dad will know. Bring me the dress we recently reordered for the third time. I'd like it small. We're going to have lunch, so get changed. Your skin looks rough”. Mrs. Sandra said in confidence.
“With whom? With dad?” Catherine asked.
“With your stepdad”, Mrs. Sandra replied as he admired her skin.
“Mom” Catherine shouted in anger.
“And wear new shoes, no high heels though. Wear something with low heels. He's not that tall”. Mrs. Sandra said to her daughter as she stood up and wore her perfume.
Catherine scoffs in surprise and says in a loud voice “Who's it? Who's this short guy who's famous enough for the press to write articles about him?
…
“Is he rich? How old is he? Is he Japanese or American? Did you ask what his job is?” Claire kept asking questions as she walked on the road with her mom but didn't get any replies from her.
She stopped, held her mom’s hands, and said “Can you please answer me? When's the wedding? Did she invite us? Is she going to buy us tickets?”
“We can't go all the way there,” Mrs. Rebecca told Claire through a demonstration with her hands
“I told you to text me when we're outside”. Claire blurted out to her mom.
Mrs. Rebecca took out her phone and typed. The content of the message says “She is studying in the US, I am sure she chose the right guy. We’ll only embarrass her if we go there”.
“Why would she be embarrassed by us? There's nothing wrong with us”. Claire said calmly, her voice breaking.
“She said he's nice and diligent, and she doesn't want to let him go. That's enough, let's not ask for more”. Mrs. Rebecca said as she demonstrated with her hands.
“Why not? Do you know how much I suffered after she left….” Claire busted out in anger, as tears filled her eyes and her voice breaking
“I am going to go to her wedding. I'm not going to wire this money. How is the bank going to send all this money to the US? I'm going to give it to her myself. I'm late for my part-time job. Bye”. Claire said in despair as she walked away.
…
“Hmm, it’s delicious. I guess it was worth replacing your head chef”. Mrs. Sandra said with a smile on her face at the table, having dinner with her daughter Catherine, Mr. Williams, and Isaac.
“Yes, our sales have increased a lot. Our last chef was also pretty competent, but as soon as he got scouted by another hotel, he left without hesitation”. Mr. Williams explained casually.
“In the end, it was all for the best. That's how life is, that only happened so that things would turn out like this”. Mrs. Sandra uttered with a grin on her face.
“Yes, if you judge everything by results, all the hard work eventually pays off with good results. All the pain and suffering was for a joyous day like this. I think the same about our families' union”. Mr. Williams added
Isaac smiled darkly, Catherine shook her head in disappointment. They're both unhappy with the union.
“Yes, you're right. We all faced some challenges, but I am sure they've helped us to become stronger and prepared us for today”. Mrs. Sandra said as she gazed at Catherine.
Catherine scoffed in anger.
“The connection between siblings is as important as the connection between a husband and wife”. Mr. Williams said as he gazed at his son, who had been quiet all along.
“I'm glad you two aren't strangers. I noticed that Isaac was born earlier than Catherine”. Mrs. Sandra said firmly.
“Say hello to her, she's your sister now”. Mr. Williams said to Isaac his son.
Isaac gave a heavy sigh and said sharply “Hello, sister”.
Catherine chuckled in anger.
“I hope you guys get along. I'm hoping you'll take good care of her as her older brother”. Mrs. Sandra added
“Of course, my sister is just my ideal type”. Isaac said darkly, his words sent cold chills to everyone, leaving them speechless.
“Bye, then,” he said as he stood up and attempted to leave.
“Sit down,” Mr. Williams said calmly.
“I have a previous engagement”, Isaac replied.
Mr. Williams stood up quietly and gave Isaac a resounding slap, leaving everyone in shock.
