"The King demands your presence," Maria's words stopped me in my tracks, and a sudden worry washed over me. What had I done wrong? I had nothing to report about Nuru, and yet the king wanted to see me.
I found him in the throne room, where he beckoned me closer to where he was.
" Your Highness," I acknowledged, bowing slightly.
"Damien, how are you finding the palace?" he inquired.
"I'm liking it and feel honored to have this job," I replied, trying to mask my surprise at the unexpected turn of our conversation.
"I must say, I am impressed with your work, which is why I am entrusting you with more responsibilities," he continued, his voice carrying a hint of approval.
