Seren I was floating in a world of black. There was no pain, no light, no sound. It was oddly peaceful, though I felt like I should do…something. I couldn’t remember what, so I just kept floating. Soon, I started to hear sounds. But not sounds that you’d expect if you were floating in a black void. There, that one…I’m certain that was a mourning dove. And that—that was definitely some kind of toad. And was that a fox crying out? What are these things doing in this void with me? I opened my eyes. Weird. I didn’t realize they had been closed. The sky above me was littered with stars in perfect midnight blue. The moon hung full in the sky, and I heard the swoosh of running water somewhere nearby. As I sat up, I braced myself for the expected agony, yet felt nothing but a strange numbness. I
