I woke to a knock on the door. We’d all found empty rooms in the hospital to crash in for now, as we wanted to stay close. “Gideon, your parents just came through the gate,” Axel told me. I stretched and headed out to meet them.
They pulled up to the hospital doors. I could see the anxious look on my mom’s face through the windshield. She was out the door and over to me almost before the vehicle stopped.
“Is it true? Is she really here? You really found her?” she asked, grabbing my hand. Dad came up behind her, putting his arms around her waist to calm her. He looked at me, his eyes asking the same questions Mom just asked out loud.
