CHAPTER 4

Clara woke up in a cozy apartment with little furniture here and there. She was lying on the floor a little bit far from the fireplace. She was covered with some sheets. As she became fully aware of her surroundings, she got up and walked hurriedly towards a window, only to notice trees everywhere. "Yes, we are far from civilization" a male voice sounded. She turned immediately. "Carlos!" She said fearfully. Carlos is a sales representative at a mall Clara usually frequented to get groceries. She has really grown fond of him over the years because he has always helped her with her shopping needs. "You need not worry, you are safe now, I promise" Carlos responded firmly. "Promise? I can't trust anyone anymore" Clara spat. "But why not, it's me your shopping buddy" Carlos said lightly, in a bid to dissipate the tension in the air. "How did i even get here?" Clara said, but suddenly felt a sharp pain and winced. "I'll be careful not to open those already stitched wounds of yours". Carlos warned "You haven't answered my question" Clara said as she grabbed a book on the shelf nearby, pointing it to Carlos. "What do you intend to do with that? Hurt me?" Carlos replied mockingly. She threw it towards him and, with his right hand stretched forward, the book remained in the air. "How are you doing this?" Clara said, trembling in surprise. "I am a warlock" Carlos said as he used telekinesis to direct the book his way and he held the book in the air. "A warlock? You must be joking right" Clara said as she tried to laugh, but the pains she sustained from the gunshots made it very impossible. "I would advise you to sit down", Carlos said, with his tone laced with chivalry. She grunts as she sat on the couch with Carlos. "What's going on? Where are we?" Clara inquired. "We are inside the forest where no hand can touch you" Carlos assured,. "Would you like something to eat?" he added, and he stood up. "Why did you rescue me?" Clara asked with her eyes fixed on Carlos. "I didn't rescue you". Carlos replied "Malcolm did," he continued. "Who is Malcom?" Clara asked. As on cue, the entrance door to the house opened almost immediately. A tall, dark-skinned, muscular man walked through the door. "I'm Malcolm" the stranger said. She froze for a moment, everything coming to a standstill. She felt herself struggling to breathe, and her gaze lingered on him for far too long. There was something about this stranger that created butterflies in her stomach. For some sort of reason, she felt so drawn to him. "Are you alright" he asked, looking back at Clara as he felt an irresistible sensation that seemed familiar, a desire for her since he rescued her. Clearing her throat after gaining consciousness of lala land, "Of course I am OK", Clara responded. "Are we safe" Carlos asked, looking at Malcom for answers. "We aren't safe?" Clara asked, trembling. "We weren't followed, we are safe" Malcolm assured them, and he walked towards the kitchen where Carlos was. "I need a response" Clara said, looking across from the room to the kitchen. Malcolm looked at Carlos and with an approving stare from Carlos he turned to Clara. "Response to what exactly" Malcolm said as he leaned on the wall close to the couch where Clara was sitting with hands crossed "Why did you rescue me?" Clara spat, now feeling irritated by Malcolm's ego that seemed to be getting to her, "Your father", Malcolm responded. "You must think of me as a fool, my father? Don't be ridiculous" Clara said, feeling angry already. "Your biological father," Carlos added. "My father is dead!. My mother made it pretty clear to me" Clara said, almost crying. "That loosed woman!" Malcolm spat as he angrily stood straight from his resting position. "You will not call my mother names" Clara shouted, staring at Malcom as her eyes turned golden. "She's the Genesis of everything we have been going through, he continued. "She betrayed our pack Alpha Paul and fell for his warlock, Beast." "Malcolm, this is not the time," Carlos said softly but firmly. "If her mother had been loyal to Paul, we would not be under a warlock. It has never happened before", Malcolm responded. "If my mother was so bad, why didn't you leave me, her offspring to rot" Clara spat as she stood up, walking towards the door in anger. "You both have to calm down, and Clara please, you are in no shape to go out on your own ", Carlos replied. Clara turned to Carlos and gave him a hard stare "Watch me". She opened the door and left. There was a moment of silence, but it was an uncomfortable one. "You know you have to go after her right," Carlos said, turning in the direction of Malcolm. "She can take care of herself" Malcolm responded sharply, still angry. "Beast would not be happy if something happened to his daughter", Carlos reminded him. "Like mother, like daughter, huh" Malcolm murmured as he walked out the door in search of Clara. Clara found herself walking through the forest with absolutely no idea where she was headed, but an unknown destination is far better than to stay and listen to what Malcom had to say. How dare he dishonor her mother like that? He barely knew her. As she walked she noticed she was slowly healing from the wound she sustained from the gunshot. She reached behind her to feel the spot, to be certain she was not just imagining things. "I would not take another step if I were you," Malcolm said. "Oh how you dare me" Clara said, taking another step as she almost fell off a cliff when Malcolm drew her to himself. Both their eyes met even in the dark with her eyes shining gold and his blue. For some reason, they could not stop staring at each other as mixed feelings overwhelmed them both, but in a good way.
