Boring, single life

.::Astrid::.     Finally. My last customers order was a huge one and I was seconds away from hitting my 5th. I’d be in so much trouble if I hit my 5th again. For those unaware, 5th means the 5th hour you’ve worked without a lunch break. I’ve already had three of those. Luckily my boss was nice enough to forgive one of them but one more and I’m done. I can’t afford to lose this job.     I work at a local grocery store just outside of the city limits. It’s not huge, but big enough to stay busy enough for our small little town. I am extremely grateful for my job. It’s enough to rent out a studio apartment. If you can call it that. It’s really an old lady’s garden shed turned into a studio apartment. She was completely alone and converted it to a studio so she can make some money. I just have to grocery shop for her and pay rent.     Clocking out for lunch, I walked over to the produce section to see what discounted items there were for my lunch. I was in a rush and forgot to grab something to eat. Grabbing a day old salad and sandwich, I went to go check out. Upside to working at a grocery store. Food is always there if you have the money to buy it.     Standing in line, I grabbed my phone out to see if my favorite author updated her story on a reading app I enjoy. I love to read, especially werewolf smut. Never been in love myself, I love reading those true love stories. Also haven’t been in love, I’ve never even kissed before but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy some sexy Alpha taking his Luna to the bedroom and having his way with her.     If only that was reality.     “Astrid, you’re next” snapping out of my thoughts, Georgia called me next.     “Sorry Georgia. You know me, space case.” I walk up and hand her my items. “It’s sure been busy today. Is there something happening this weekend?”     Georgia scanned my items and put them to the side for me to grab. “I have no idea sweetheart. You youngins would know better than I.”     “Aw Georgia. You know all I do is read and work. I have no social life outside of work.” I hand her the cash for my food, using my last $5.00 I have until payday.     “Astrid. You are young. You need to get out and find that man of your dreams. Not the men you read about.” She chuckles and hands me my change and a soda. “On the house sweetie. You look like you need the sugar.”     “Thank you so much Georgia. Don’t you ever retire. This store wouldn’t be the same without you,” I smile grabbing my change, soda and food. She always seems to give me something with sugar on these busy days. She is truly a sweetheart and one of the only friends I can say I have.     Walking outside, munching on my sandwich, I am nose deep into the episode the author released. They recently had a sell on points so I purchased some just so I can finish this book as she releases episodes. They are the best and the only thing I look forward to. Sitting outside on the park bench we have set near a little park, I finish my sandwich and start on my salad.     Maybe Georgia is right. If I want to find true love, I should try and go out. It is a long weekend this weekend. Maybe I should try to go to the bar and see if anyone strikes my fancy.     Suddenly my phone starts ringing, interrupting my story. Of course, just like always, whenever I'm thinking of doing something, my GBF, gay best friend calls me.     "What's up Eric?" I ask, answering my phone with a full mouth. Knowing full well that Eric will hate that.     "Astrid, darling, manners. I swear. We are never going to find you a man if you keep this up." I can hear his eye rolling from the phone.     Making sure I have a clear mouth, I giggle. "Sorry Eric. You know I'm on my lunch. What's up?" I put my salad down and crack open my soda, taking a sip before Eric launches into whatever scheme he has up his fabulous sleeves.     "Well, I know you have a long weekend this weekend so I was thinking, you, me, we get you all dolled up and go out! You need a break, I need a distraction, and you're not getting any younger."     "Okay, rude. Not like you're getting any younger. You're a whole three years older than me! I'm only 25. I'm still young!" I shake my head and then realize I missed a vital part. "Wait, why do you need a distraction? Oh no... Don't tell me..."     "Yup, you're hearing it now. That scum bag Paul cheated. I really thought he was the one... Any-whoodle. That means I need to go on the prowl and find my next meal. You know I simply cannot do that without my arm candy."     I take a bite of my salad and consider. I was just thinking of going to the local biker bar near the grocery store but going into the city might be more fun. And probably younger, better looking guys. "Fine, you win. You're lucky I was considering going to the local biker bar. You're idea sounds more fun. Just as long as you do my hair and makeup."     "Darling, you are not going to a biker bar. And you know you are not allowed to touch that beautiful face or hair without my assistance anyways. I have just the outfit for you picked out!" He actually squealed and I couldn't help but giggle. "Oh! I am so excited! Alright. You finish your lunch and I will pick you up after your shift so we can take Madam her groceries and then we are going back to my place. I need you girlie."     "You got it bestie. I might be late so mind if I send you the grocery list and grab them before the end of my shift? It's been super busy."     "Always, anything for you. Love you. Bye." He hangs up with a kiss and I just smile. It's been a hot minute since I have been out to a proper club. Actually, it's been like 8 months, since my birthday. That's when Eric met Paul. I thought they would be so perfect together but I always felt off about Paul. I guess that explains it.     Finishing my salad and soda before my 15 minute alarm goes off, I continue reading until the alarm. I was able to just finish the episode with a major cliffhanger before my alarm goes off. I love those cliffhangers but I swear this author leaves every other episode off with a major one. This one with the Luna being kidnapped. Luckily, the Alpha is strong and would do anything for his Luna. Standing up and stretching, I make my way towards the grocery store to finish my shift.
