“There are no records of this aki’s existence,” Barame said, gesturing to the massive gemstone. “Lacotl must have discovered it and started feeding the women he’s captured into the crystal to corrupt the natural energy within. Now, the aki thirsts for the taste of human spirits. He is not like the kan’thir killed in Meishoken all those years ago—he is worse. Consuming flesh was not good enough for him; he insisted on defiling our sacred spirits.” Barame shook his head sadly. “Still, I fail to understand why he only took women. My students.”
