Chapter 2

642 Words
All my life, people had been the ones begging me for mercy. The last person who had dared talk to me like that had ended up six feet under. I stepped forward and slapped Stella across the face. The sound echoed through the rose garden. Half of her face instantly swelled up. She covered her cheek, turned back to me in disbelief, and screamed, "You actually hit me?" Seeing that, several burly maids rushed toward me like a pack of angry mama bears. I only smiled. As the heir of the Coppola family, I had never neglected my combat training. I had mastered both martial arts and close quarters fighting long ago. These women were nothing more than a few strong maids. I easily slipped past their frantic grabs, twisted around, and drove a kick into one woman's knee. Before the others could react, I grabbed another maid by the hair and slammed her straight onto the ground. "Pathetic." I shook off my hand and turned to leave while Stella screamed behind me in pure rage. Suddenly, one of the maids shouted, "Mr. Leone is back!" I looked up and saw a man in a perfectly tailored suit striding toward us, his face cold and unreadable. The moment Stella saw him, it was like her knight in shining armor had finally arrived. She immediately wiped away her vicious expression, put on the face of a helpless victim, and threw herself into Albert's arms. "Albert, you're finally here. I was bullied so badly!" Honestly, Albert really was attractive. With that face, he could have easily made it in Hollywood. Too bad he was fully aware that he was engaged to me, yet he was still holding his childhood sweetheart and looking at her like she was the only person in the world. I scoffed inwardly. I needed to call my grandfather. This marriage was officially dead on arrival. I ignored their disgusting love scene and walked straight toward the rose garden exit. "Stop there!" Albert didn't even spare me a glance. He only focused on wiping Stella's tears. "You hurt my people and think you can walk away?" Several bodyguards stepped forward from behind him and blocked my path. I sighed helplessly and turned to face him. "Mr. Leone, my grandfather is currently in your grandfather's study discussing our engagement. If they find out what happened here, do you really think that will look good?" The moment I brought up Albert's grandfather, the maids' expressions shifted. "Wait, what? Is she really Mr. Leone's fiancée?" "Who cares if she is? Look at how Mr. Leone is protecting Miss Gallo. It's obvious this engagement might not even happen." "Exactly. We should keep our mouths shut. If we upset Miss Gallo, we'll be the ones paying the price later. Everyone knows what she's like." The moment Albert heard the word "engagement," his face darkened even more. "That's nonsense! I never agreed to it. Besides, my grandfather has always favored me. There's no way he'll make me marry some nobody who came out of nowhere!" Stella lifted her head from Albert's arms and looked at me with a smug smile, "Albert and I grew up together. And you? A nobody actually believes you have a shot at becoming Mrs. Leone?" I nodded. Perfect. Those two deserved each other. They could stay glued together for the rest of their lives and spare everyone else the misery. From what my grandfather had told me, the Leone family was the one that fought the hardest for this marriage alliance. I had met Albert's grandfather a few times, and he was a genuinely decent man. If he ever found out his grandson had single handedly blown the engagement he'd worked so hard to secure, the fallout would be spectacular. Then again, even the best families ended up with one bad apple.
