Laurie was slowly walking towards the school, contemplating how things were going to change over the next few days. Laurie had no idea where she was going to go or what she was going to do she was just thankful that she was able to leave. A part of the adoption contract the Dawsons had signed was that at the age of 18, Laurie would be handed a package and be free to leave the residence if she wished. Laurie had no idea who would arrange such a thing for her, but the knowledge that it was just 2 days away from happening kept her giddy wanting to finally uncover the mystery.
Considering the way Laurie has been treated, she remains optimistic that life only gives us what we can handle. Laurie believes that this is just a test, making sure she's ready for whatever gets thrown at her once this chapter of her life is finished.
Just as she was walking up to the school gates, Laurie heard a commotion to the side of the field. Looking over, Laurie could see the school bullies cornering another young girl, Bianca. Bianca was a couple years younger than Laurie but was always pleasant, polite, and even attempted a couple of times to protect Laurie from said bullies. However this just caused Bianca to be targeted as well, although this is the first time Laurie has actually seen it happening, usually she just sees the aftermath when Bianca's brother appears and the bullies pretend it's all just a game.
I look around to see if I can spot Biancas brother, Aston, but he's nowhere to be seen. He must have already gone inside, Laurie thought to herself. Just like that, Laurie did the unthinkable and walked over to the bullies in order to protect Bianca.
" Well well well what do we have here?" Courtney sneers. "What do you think you're going to do? Wanting to protect your little girlfriend, are you?" Sneered one of Courtney's groupies. " Well, she can't get herself a man, so I wouldn't be surprised if she's a lettuce licker instead," shouts another one.
Laurie's P.O.V
I look over to Bianca with a sorry expression on my face. Hearing what the girls are now saying, I know things are only going to get worse for Bianca. Before I can do anything else, I heard someone shout "Oi what do you think you're doing cornering my sister like that!" I glance to the left and to both mine and Biancas relief Aston is walking towards us with the rest of the football team. Courtney and her groupies started squirming and pretending that they were just messing around it was all a game. Bianca came up to me and her beautiful green eyes and long auburn hair and gave me a hug. " Thank you for trying to save me," she whispered.
Whilst Aston is still pushing the girls away and putting them in their place about his sister, I embrace Bianca a little more. She's such a beautiful little soul, I just can't understand why people would want to cause any pain or harm to her at all. Her big brother Aston is the captain of the football team and one of the most popular people in the school. What is Courtney's problem?
Just then, Aston walks over to us with a sweet smile on his face, and i can see the love he has for his little sister in his deep blue eyes. We then release the hug we've been having before looking up to Aston. Being 6-foot 3 Aston towers over most of the school. Bianca rushes to give Aston a hug whilst I silently give her a little smile. 'Oh, how I wish I had family I could rely on like that,' I thought to myself.
Just as I start to turn around and go into school, Aston reaches out and grabs my arm. I freeze. I slowly look down and where Aston has hold of me. It's firm enough that I can not get away, but not so much it is going to cause me any pain. "Hey," Aston eventually says. I turn slightly to look up at him. He slowly releases my arm when he realises I'm not going to bolt and reaches up, scratching the back of his head and neck. I notice he looks nervous when looking down at me. "I just wanted to say thank you for sticking up for my sister, She's all I've got, you know." he signs, finally getting out what he wanted to say. I look up into his eyes and get lost in the deepness of them for just a moment. I quickly snap back into reality when I hear the football team calling for their captain. "Ermmm... yeah of course. Its nothing she's a lovely girl she doesn't deserve none of that" I say shakily. Aston gives me that killer smile of his that shows off his dimples and says "Well, I guess I will see you around. oh and thanks again."
Lost in my thoughts whilst walking Aston jog away to meet up with his teammates I almost don't hear the school bell indicating that first lesson is already starting. I quickly rush into school straight to my lesson luckily I just about beat the tutor inside.
The morning drags on with lesson after lesson but before I know it, it's lunch break. Instead of rushing towards to canteen like everyone else I slowly make my way outside to the playing field where I know my friend Jessie will come and meet me.
Jessie is a year older than me so she has already left school and is now attending the college nearby. Luckily for me Jessie has the same breaks so she will often come over to the playing field to meet me and bring me some lunch knowing the Dawsons don't like to feed me more than once a day. Even then its only left overs which isn't all that much. I sit on the benches awaiting her arrival like usual. Day dreaming about what it would be like to have someone like Aston in my life, protecting me, holding me, making sure I'm happy. I'm sitting there with a stupid grin on my face whilst my mind pretends I'm Astons girlfriend when "Well I've never seen a smile like that from you before" Jessie whispers into my ear. I look down embarrassed about what I was doing when Jessie throws a bag with food at me. "Here eat this, I can't let me best friend starve to death when she's finally going to be out of that hellhole and free, can I?" I giggle slightly and give Jessie a thankful smile. Jessie is like the big sister I never had, always looking out for me and making sure I'm alright.
" So what guy caused that smile on your face?" Jessie asks in between sips of juice.
"oh don't be silly, I'm just thinking about finally having my freedom" I conteract. "sure you are" Jessie says whilst giving me a smirk like she knows I'm lying. Before I xan continue to defend my innocence anymore the bells rings signally for me to return to classes. "Saved by the bell, I better get going but thanks for lunch" I smile at Jessie before grabbing my bag and rushing to my next class.
Jessie watches as I walk back towards the building with a smile on her face... I just know she's going to interrogate me over the weekend when she comes to help me at the house.
