POV: Maya
I didn't make it five miles. My legs gave out after three. I collapsed in the snow, black blood streaming from my nose and mouth. My vision flickered. My heart beat irregularly, skipping beats, racing, then slowing to almost nothing. The serum was finally killing me.
"MAYA!" Elena's voice cut through the darkness. She'd followed me despite my orders. "Oh God, no. No, no, no."
