My Accidental Luna

Chapter 4

Barrett's POV

No, no, no, no this cannot be happening, I thought over and over to myself as we were lead to our booth. "You better go get her and grab her and never let her go, she's Mate and Ive been waiting four years for this!" Shaw scowled at me. "Dude no that's super creepy, plus I don't want a mate I was doing just fine without her. Also did you not notice she has a wedding ring on, she's already married." Shaw whimpered "but she is our mate, and rightfully ours". "Well that's too bad as she is already taken it seems, so back off its not happening." I didn't want to sound to harsh too him but he retreated to the back of my mind and blocked me out anyways. I mean I never wanted my mate, she's married and to boot she human, I cannot have a human Luna. I mean I could plus we can turn them when we mark them but that is only if they accept it. However it doesn't matter, she is married and I am doing just fine. The smell hit me again as she was walking over with waters for the table. "Hello again for my name is Adaline and Im taking care of you today, can I start anyone with drinks?" everyone went around and ordered until they got to me I just stared at her, I couldn't stop I was mesmerized. She smiled wider and giggled "are you okay?" she asked her voice was like music to my ears. I coughed "oh yeah sorry, sorry, what was the question?" Heather stifled a laugh and I glared at her. " Its okay I was asking if I could start you with a drink" "No water is fine, uhm I was wondering I'm not too hungry but I smelt a lemon pie when I walked in could I get that please?" I asked. "Lemon pie huh I'm not too sure we have that, Im new and they change the desert menu often but I'll check for you and get it on over to you if we do okay?" she said sweetly. "Yeah thanks" was all I could muster.

"Dude what the hell is wrong with you?" Holden scolded. Both Sam and Heather laughed. "Am I missing something?" he questioned. "Yea" Sam said, "alpha here just found our Luna" Heather giggled out. "WHAT?!" Holden yelled and the whole restaurant quieted. "Shut the hell up Holden" I growled. "Where? What? How? Who" was all he got out. " I don't want to talk about it because I do not care" I returned. "Barrett" I cut Sam off "No Sam, no, for one she's human and two she is married did no one noticed the ring on her finger?" They all got quiet, this whole thing basically killed the good mood. "Wait the waitress, she's his mate" Holden kept going. "Please" but before I could continue, I smelled her getting closer and before she rounded the corner to our booth she said "Im sorry Barrett" that made me stiffen right there on the spot and my eyes went wide, hearing her say my name made every fiber in me light on fire. " please tell me your Barrett, I'm just guessing here, we don't have any lemon pie, however this lemon custard trifle is pretty amazing, if I do say so myself as I make them, so I brought this over, If you don't like it don't worry its on the house, but after if you wanted the pie still, there is a little bakery about 5 minutes down the town road called Sweets, I also work there and we make the best lemon meringue pie this side of the coast" she set the trifle down and Holden spoke "the best huh" he was getting started already. "Yes actually we have won many awards for it, it is my own family recipe" Heather was next and I cannot believe what she said. "That is so nice of you to let us know that, me and my husband here Sam, are always down to go to new places with other couples, I see you wear a ring, would you and your spouse show us the good spots sometime?" I glared at her with the most alpha aura I could put off and she bowed her head in submission but Holden nudged my side hard, when I looked at him he nodded his head towards Adaline. I looked at her and she had the saddest look on her face on the brink of tears I had to fight to keep seated and not run to her to make her happy, as it killed me to see that face.

"Heather what did you say" I scolded her. "Oh hunny Im sorry did I say something wrong I really did not mean to upset you are you okay" she asked frantically. "Im sorry, Im sorry" she wiped her tears away as fast as they began to fall. "My husband was in the military and unfortunately right after we moved here a year an a half ago, he deployed and we lost him" we all sat there shocked and saddened for what she had gone through. "Oh my goodness I am so sorry, that is not something I tell anyone I have no idea why I said that, please excuse me, again I am so sorry" she ran away to the back of the restaurant. Shaw was whimpering in my head, he re emerged when she brought the dessert to the table to hear her talk. "Mate is in pain, we need to go to her, she only told us that because of the bond, she does not feel it the way we do." "What do you mean?" I asked him. "Since she does not have her wolf yet, the bond works differently, that why she was confused why she told us this, she just automatically feels comfortable around us, she feels safe, and does not know why." "Holy s**t" I said out loud. "ditto" Holden said. "I feel absolutely awful for asking, I was just trying to see if she was married or not, I wanted to see if it would work with you two, goddess Im such an idiot." Heather was practically crying now. " You are not an i***t, am I mad you asked, yes I am, but I'm more heart broken my mate is in so much pain, she lost her world and all I want to do is make it better." I stood up and walked around to the bar area, "can you please tell me where Adaline is?" I asked the bartender. "Yeah she went into the back office, it's right over there by the bathrooms" he pointed me in the right direction. I smelled her before I even got to the door, the worst part was I felt the sadness she was feeling. I knocked on the door "Adaline?" I asked thankfully the door was unlocked " Im coming in okay?"

She stiffened when the door opened. She then began frantically wiping her tears. "Uhm hey" I started very cautiously, " I am so very very sorry for what just happened." Before I could finish, "No, no I am sorry, I honestly have no idea why I told you all of that, for some reason it just came out." She again stated confused. "I was wondering uhm when your shift here was done, uhm I wanted to make it up to you, we were headed out to the beach for a bit after lunch here and then out to the Wolfs Den and was wondering if you wanted to tag along to sort of lift your spirits back up?" I blurted out as fast as I could before I changed my mind. Shaw was wagging ecstatically in my mind. She smiled slightly, goddess she was beautiful when she smiled, all I wanted was to keep that smile on her face. "That's really sweet of you" she paused "my shift does end in about 45 minutes, y'all were my last table." I smiled wide "awesome we can swing by your place and grab your suit and a change of clothes" I couldn't help but smile wider. "BUT" she continued and my smile faded. "No don't stop smiling, Im sorry" she sounded sad that I was sad "its just I barely make it with bills and I can't afford to keep my son in daycare longer than the times I am at work" she finished. Damn the air was knocked out of me she also had a kid, I mean I knew she wasn't innocent by any means since she was married but I was not expecting her to be a mother. "You have a son" I asked with way more shock in my tone than I wanted. "Yes he's just turned two, he was born 6 months before we moved here" she said softly. "Stop it, she is still Mate, whether she has a child or not she is ours and that means he is ours now too" Shaw shouted at me, "but she has a KID" "and? Barrett listen to me, she is the other half of us, the Moon Goddess does not make mistakes, she would not have given us a mate that is not capable to be Luna, already a mother or not" he said trying his best to get me to comply. "Are you okay?" she looked at me confused. "Huh?" I was brought back to the conversation suddenly by her question. "Oh uhm you just kind of zoned out on me there", "oh Im sorry I was just talking" She looked at me and scrunched her eyebrows at me, "sorry thinking I was just thinking, wondering, if a two year old is too young for the beach, the club definitely but if you wanted he could definitely tag along" What in the world is wrong with me did I just invite her child to the beach? Did I want to meet him? Damn I need air. " That's really thoughtful of you, I really appreciate it, but I don't really introduce him to too many people just yet, due to our circumstances." She paused looking me in the eyes and started to smile. " My roommate does owe me babysitting since I had to take care of her demon cat for a week" she giggled " I could meet you all at the club later around 8ish, would that be okay?" she asked. I smiled wide, "Yes that would be great" I went to open the door for her and turned around fast and she bumped right into me, electric waves shot in every area on he she made contact with and I gasped. "Oh I'm so sorry" she gasped out. "No that's on me I grabbed her arms to steady her and held her at arms length. "I wanted to say that it may be better for us to exchange number and then we can pick you up at your apartment that way you don't have to drive and we can make sure you get home safe as well", "okay that would be great thanks, here's my number." We exchanged numbers, "by the way yes I am Barrett you were right back there" I said laughing. Her face turned beet red, "I only guessed solely on your hair and last name I figured you dyed it to match the name" she stated embarrassed. I laughed loud. "Actually I was born with hair like this, my father has the same" I stated between laughs. "Huh that's cool, oh goodness we have been in here nearly 10 minutes talking I have to get back to work, I have to get y'alls food order in as well, I am so sorry for keeping you!" She ran out to our table, I just watched in awe as she made her way over.

"Hey guys I am so sorry about that, lets get you your orders in you can eat!" she exclaimed as I took my seat. "Hey uhm I am so incredibly sorry, that was not my place to ask questions and I feel awful about it and I hope you can forgive me" Heather said with her head held low. "Hey" Adaline said loud enough to get Heather's attention, when she looked up Adaline continued "You didn't know, I mean how could you" she laughed a little "It is okay, besides Barrett here got me out of my little sad party and back to myself, he invited me to the beach with y'all but I have to pick up my son from daycare" Holden chocked on his water when she said that, I slapped his back hard to warn him. "You okay there?" she asked "yeah, went down wrong is all" he said between coughs. "However he also invited me out to the Wolfs Den with y'all and I accepted SO you can make it up to me then by helping this momma get some fun in" she finished smiling. Everyone smiled big at her and we finished ordering. 20 minutes later she brought out food, "okay here we go, y'all can really eat" she giggled as she set down 8 different plates. "Oh uh yea" Sam started " we skipped breakfast and wanted to get enough to make it through the night" he finished. "Smart, anyways, I have to get going my shift is about done, I hope you enjoy the food and it's on me as a thank you and sorry for brining it all down there, but I will see y'all later!" "Absolutely not" I all but growled, she looked at me shocked and confused. "I'm sorry?" She questioned me with her hands on her hips, my goddess she is going to be the death of me. "I mean as being on you, we will pay and here is your tip" as I handed over a hundred dollar bill. She started shaking her head. "I cannot accept that", "you can and you will, you have a son to take care of, and I won't take no for an answer". She hesitated but took the money, "thank you Barrett, I'll text you when I get James down to bed". She turned and left the restaurant. I just watched her leave. I couldn't take my eyes off her. When she was gone, I turned back to Sam, Heather and Holden. They all stared at me. Sam had a knowing look in his eyes, Heather smiling as wide as her mouth would go and Holden just had his mouth hanging open. "Shut up", I said, looking each of them in the eyes. They all nodded and started eating. I know they are only dropping this for now, but later I'm going to hear about it. We ate in silence, finished and headed to the beach.
