Chapter 17

Adaline's POV

Barrett led us to his office, which was not at all decorated as I pictured. There were family pictures on the walls a large white oak desk with a very comfortable-looking cream-colored chair. There were two large white sofas framing each side of the door and two velvet blue chairs in front of the desk. I don't know why, but I pictured it to be dark and manly, not light and welcoming. I was looking around as everyone was getting settled in and I noticed some pictures of a younger Bennett with a beautiful woman who looks a lot like Sam, maybe it was Sam's mom? I felt warmth on my lower back, then I heard Barrett behind me say " I'll tell you all about the pictures later. Are you ready to start the meeting?" Hmm, so maybe there is a story there. "Yeah. Let's do this." He lead me to his chair behind his desk, I looked at him questionably. "Have a seat I am going to stand for a bit." I noticed everyone was staring at us waiting. "Actually, Barrett, I would like to speak first if, that is okay, I know I am not used to formalities around here but once again its something I have to do so please you have a seat first." He nodded and before he sat he turned to me again quickly "would you like something to drink first?" How did he already know what I was going to do, I smiled and shook my head "no but thank you very much, I am comfortable enough to do this." I turned to everyone and I looked to one couch and saw the sympathy in Sam, Heather and Holden's eyes, they were ready, Mikayla looked a little confused. " Excuse me everyone, I know this may not be how your meetings typically go but there is something you all need to know before we start, some of you already know this but for those who I have just met and the two gentleman on the back couch I have not met it is important you all know this first." The two men stood in the back and bowed one was a spitting image of Sam and the other almost identical to Bennett but with red hair. " We are sorry we missed the introductions earlier Luna my name is Stephan I am the former Beta of Crescent Blue Moon and Sam's father, and this is Thomas the Gamma and Bennett's younger brother." That makes so much sense now! Neither one had a partner with them, so maybe women were not in meetings usually? I smiled. "Please call me Adaline and it is nice to meet you both!" I sighed, here we go again.

I don't know why but it seemed that this time telling my story took a lot longer than normal. When I got to the part of Sebastian, I noticed Renee reach and grab for Bennett's hand and held him firmly, and I noticed Stephen tense up as well and Thomas quickly rubbed his back. I know my story is sad but I didn't expect it to have an impact this much. I finally finished and I noticed I too was holding Barrett's hand. I have no idea when that happened. "Okay, so to end my extremely long story, we catch up here and now, and for some reason, I am surrounded by wolves and I am not internally freaking out." Everyone chuckled at that, lightening the mood a bit. " I have the answer to most of the questions here in the room as well, I know a lot of you are wondering why Adaline is my mate when she was already taken, so to speak." Barrett stood up and then sat me in his chair so I could ease a little, "SO aside when we were in town and of course got into mischief and I got hurt, which we are still looking for that wolf to bring back and question, I was given something by Beck and when I was out the Moon Goddess came to me" as Barrett said that his parents, Stephan and Thomas all gasped and almost lept out of their seats. That must not be a normal thing they hear often. "Yes it is true she came to me and told me the reasoning behind how everything happened. I had always fully intended to be with Adaline, but as a human and in another state, she obviously had no idea about me, and when life happened the Moon Goddess was not going to meddle and was working on a second chance, but fate and tragedy happened." I just noticed Beck still hadn't come back from the infirmary I hope she is okay. "Also in her visit she stated there was going to be War over this as well, she said everyone will honor Ad as Luna but some will anger at it and War is going to happen." My heart fluttered when he called me Ad, then my head snapped to his "WAIT WAR?"

"Adaline, calm down, It's okay, I promise nothing will happen to you or James." Everyone nodded at that. "I don't care YOU never told me there would be WAR if I came here. I can't do this, I can't be the cause of a war and also have my son in danger" I started to have another panic attack. Barrett was trying to calm me down but it was not helping this time. I can't be the cause of death, I can't deal with losing more people, I can't deal with losing Barrett. I looked him in the eyes. I saw the worry in them, not about war but about me. My god, this man I cannot lose him. I put my hand on his cheek and he leaned into it and moved his forehead to mine. "Adaline, I promise you forever you and James will be safe. We are stronger with you here and I am stronger with you." I heard the door open. "Adaline calm down." Beck was back. "Listen, this was all set in stone way before either of you were ever thought of. The Moon Goddess knew this was coming and there was nothing she could do. It was foretold to me long ago and again when the Goddess visited me last night." All eyes snapped to Becks. My mouth was hanging open. "You knew, you knew this whole time that I would be the cause of war?" She shook her head. "No." She sighed "When I was younger my mother always told me of the fated white wolf. She was apart of the Moon Goddess' spirit. She was made from her. YOU are made from her." "WHAT THE f**k" I said pretty sure for everyone. "AD! The Moon Goddess visited me last night as well to remind me of what is to come. She put you on my path for a reason. You are to be protected at all costs because everyone wants to have you as their mate as they believe that will make them all superior. I wanted to deny her, since you were too important to me, but she also reminded me, as my mother once said, I was to be the protector of the white wolf, which means I was always destined to be your protector."

"I don't believe that. Why me? I am nothing special, I am just a normal person." They for sure have the wrong person. " I read about this a few hundred years back. A human turned into a wolf, but not any wolf, a white wolf, with a direct descent from the Moon Goddess, Adaline. Are you sure there is no wolf history in your family?" Sam asked. "I am positive, I think that is something that you would remember 100 percent. My parents nor grandfather ever spoke of this." I mean right, I would have been told. "It is true Ad, you need to speak to your grandfather. Maybe we can get him here that way, he has no choice but to tell you." Crap. "Okay, I'll get in touch with him but I am positive it is a mistake." I was practically sitting on Barrett's lap now since he was the only thing keeping me grounded here. "Okay I think it has been long enough in here and dinner is approaching, lets go get the kids and get some food we call talk about this more tomorrow and get some research done as well." Bennett stood and said, everyone got up and started for the door, "Adaline?" He asked as I got closer to the door "Yes Bennet?" Barrett must have know what he wanted as he squeezed my hand and smiled at me as he left. "Before you go I would like to talk to you, there is a few thing I need to tell you and hope it helps you a little." Oh no am I in trouble? "Dont worry it is nothing about what you did or said, there is a few things from my past that you need to know."
