Chapter 29

1307 Words
Adaline's POV We all made our way into the house. My grandparents remodeled the house when I was 13. They wanted a more open concept and my nana specifically wanted a modern farmhouse. When you walk in, right to the front is the staircase to go upstairs. Next to that, a hallway leading into the kitchen, dining and living area. The kitchen is straight ahead, all white cabinetry, even the large fridge was built to look like cabinets, with light grey marble countertops. A large island takes up most of the kitchen space. To the left is a large farmhouse table my papa built that seats 10. To the right is the living room that kind of wraps around to the front of the house, with a small office at the end in front of a big picture window. My grandparents let me help out with picking things during the renovation and I got to pick the fireplace for the living room. I went with a large white brick with a mantle that was bigger than the fireplace itself. My papa was against it but my nana was all for it for decorating on the holidays. She didnt get many as they died not long after. We got the boys sitting on the island with some food and the TV on. The rest of us gathered at the table and sat down. He had prepared sandwiches, a pasta salad, chips and sweet tea. "Alright everyone, let's eat, and yes, Ad we will talk and eat. I know how you get dear." He did know me better than anyone really, as he helped raise me and then had to finish raising me. "Right, so everyone, my name is Jospeh and, as you all know now, I am human. My wife Sally was like you. She was from the Lotus pack." I heard everyone gasp "The Lotus are you sure, they have been extinct over 100 years I thought?" Renee all but jumped out of her seat as she asked. "Yes, that is what they had wanted everyone to believe. They were sick of the wars and the fighting to claim lands and pack members, so they retreated." Everyone looked so confused. "They knew what was to come, as did we, they had promised though that when the time came they would step up and fight to help protect their blood." "Sally's brother, Henry, was the Alpha but he never produced an heir, but we did. Charlotte was to take over when she became of age but she found Adaline's father, Alexander, and they got pregnant almost right away and decided to keep her safe after they knew the truth about you, Adaline. We, however, had another child, Oliver, who has been the Alpha ever since he turned 18." WHAT?! They all turned to look at me. Oh s**t I must have screamed that, out loud. "I'm sorry, but I just recently learned that I have a wolf and am not human and also that my parents and nana, died protecting me somehow, and NOW I am learning I have a whole other family and pack out there. What the hell, how the hell and WHY THE HELL?" Barrett was rubbing my arms at this point in attempt to calm me. "ADALINE MARIE" I lowered my head knowing I was in trouble, even as an adult here I am in trouble. "Now I know I raised you better than that and I also know this is all new and confusing to you, do NOT interupt me again and let me finish please." He was staring daggers at me. "I'm sorry papa, please continue." Damn, I really do need to learn to not get all heated up, "thank you. Now where was I? Oh yes, Oliver has been training and teaching the pack everything they need to know about Adaline and the whole situation. His daughters have become quite amazing warriors. His oldest, Rachel, is just three years younger than you Ad, and her mate, David, has been training to take over while she chose her sister Chloe to be her beta. She has not yet found her mate. She just turned 18 though. Now we were all basically sworn to secrecy about you until you were old enough that Selena emerged. The Moon Goddess came to your grandmother and mother to tell them that your mother was pregnant with you. Your father, after that, begged to be turned as he wanted nothing more than to protect his baby girl. Your mother agreed, as the Moon Goddess had already blessed it, so for 13 years they trained with your uncle. You even went to the pack to get used to the layout. You didn't know what it was though, as technically you were the oldest and should have been the next alpha, but with everything that happened, your uncle and I agreed to have your cousin take over." I felt Selena push forward a bit. It was confirmed when my grandfather looked at me in wonder. "Purple again I see," he stated, as if he knew. "She was dormit, yes, but she would still emerge slightly from time to time when you were mad or upset, after the attack. Then she went dormit for good." Wait what? "Attack, what attack?" I noticed he became more rigid and upset, "There was an attack on the pack one day. We had all gone to see how everything was going and trained with everyone. It seemed like every other time and no issues until your parents, grandmother and I took you over to the playarea with all the other kids. You were playing, everything was peaceful, until the alarms started blaring. Your parents quickly shifted while I picked you up and your grandmother stood in front of us. Your parents on either side. Rogues came out of the woods. About 20, we were outnumbered and so was the packhouse. Your grandmother shifted and nudged me and you towards the woods before they saw you." I started to get flashes of a memory, "wait I remember," Papa was staring at me now. "You had told me to keep quiet and I was almost 14, so I knew well enough to listen. I remember seeing three wolves looking back at us before they charged forward. I don't remember the rest." He nodded. "You won't remember until Selena comes forward fully. They got most of them but your father was surrounded. Your mother picked off two herself. She was going to help Sally but I guess she said she was fine, so your mother headed towards your father. She got a few and so did he. Neither of them saw the last one lunge at your father until it was too late. He was gone and your mother was down from the pain of losing him. Unfortunately, that's all they needed to take her down and, of course, Sally was down now from the pain of watching them die. I couldn't warn her or yell out at her without jeopardizing you. I needed to keep you safe. That was my only goal then. Your uncle finally got there to finish them off. I took you out but you had passed out from the pain of your parents. I begged the moon goddess to take it away, make you forget. She must have heard me because when you came too, you were talking about a car accident and had no idea who your uncle was anymore. We agreed that was best and I had to go on and keep the secret. The moon goddess did visit me that night and brought your parents and Sally as a goodbye and I was told everything they were and here we are, you found your mate and Selena is coming."
