Claire
I am currently, restlessly twirling the pen among my fingers, and tapping it against the wooden desk . The air-conditioned room somehow managed to lessen my restlessness. I continued in scanning the enigmatic-paper, that laid down between hands. Before proceeding to type the data, I read it once more and proceeded to type the data. The data had become riddles inside my head making it absolutely difficult for me to comprehend the statistical data written in the paper. I let out a groan, finally giving in as i face-planted onto the table.
I heard a gentle knock against my door. "Come in" I mumbled while still face-planted onto the desk, I then heard the door opened. I gently lifted my head, so I could take a look at the person who entered my office. As, the door opened I was greeted by the warm smile of a middle-aged woman. It suddenly gave me a rich feeling of serenity and comfort. before taking a seat at the chair, she walked towards me, then placed a small box in front of me.
"I thought that you might need a break, so I brought you food from the local bakery that you are so fond of." I let out a soft laugh.
"Amelia, you never cease to fail me in giving me a sense-of-comfort." She smiled before standing up from the chair. My eyes followed her moves, I noticed how Amelia had a gentle touch and graceful movements for someone in her age. She was a very mysterious person—usually I could feel an energy or an aura from a person which helps me in deciphering on what kind of being I am currently facing, but I can't feel anything from her, not even a miasma. Ever since I started working here Amelia had been a great friend of mine: Although Amelia wasn't the same age as me, but we somehow managed to get along. Our perspectives in life were different but we complete each other's differences and lacking. My thoughts drifted back into the reality in front of me, Amelia took a book out and opened it, she flipped each of the pages on to the next pages
"When was the last time you read this book?" I stood up and went towards her to take a look at the title of the book. It was entitled as "Kings"
"Ah. It was the book of werewolves, back then we use to think that they were just myths and legends. Who knew the supernaturals would exist and reside among us." I let out a chuckle, as I ran my fingers across the title that was engraved on the front cover of the book.
"I'm just glad they decided to formally reside, and have a peaceful life among us. Although I never got to see their king, I only knew Alphas of some pack but I never saw their king." Amelia said as she looked down on the book.
"Well, it is not our problem. Rather it would be the werewolves' problem," I said. I could hear myself and I sounded like a selfish bastard. Who only thought about myself.
"Well.. it is actually our problem too, without their king, order could not persist and it might cause danger not only to their kind, but also to humanity." Amelia said wisely. I felt ashamed for thinking only about our race, But she looked at me kindly and smiled.
"Don't be guilty, we all went through being selfish. You're young and you haven't explored some of the experiences in life, in which you will soon get to know."
"You know I've been seeing that you have been stressed lately. Why don't you go take a break? and maybe find someone along the way?" Amelia suggestively said as she gave me a teasing look.
"There are some hot werewolves at the club tonight, or maybe go on a vacation?" What she said made me think. Maybe I do really need to take a break.
"I will then, but no clubbing I'll sign for a vacation leave and maybe leave the city for a few weeks?" I thought, Amelia gave me a nod. As we both packed our belongings and went home. And I could use a little nice relaxing bath today. As I took a step inside my house, a little ball of sunshine came bouncing towards me. I bent to to give him a rub on his belly,
"Hi Luigi! did you miss me?" I asked, but the little dachshund seems to be enjoying the rubs I am giving him. I carried him over my shoulder as I walked towards my couch. I landed on the couch with an "ompf"
"Luigi, what do you think about going on a cruise?" I asked him, but he only gave me a snort.
"Good answer." I answered sarcastically, as Luigi continued to ignore me by playing with a ball, in his mouth, while he sits on my lap. I continued stroking his shiny fur, as I thought about which cruise should I go? Just as I was thinking my phone rang, scaring Luigi out of my lap.
"Amelia?"
"Hey Claire, remember when you said that you want to go on a cruise for your vacation?"
With my interest perking up I said "I don't remember saying that, but bring on the details"
"Well a friend just happen to go on a cruise too. so here is what they have, a breakfast buffet, a dinner with classic music during 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm, they have a pool and mostly a spa, she didn't bring in more details. But I guess you'll have to find out by yourself. The destination is to New York by the way."
"Well, I'll buy the tickets! Your girl needs a break too" I said, as Luigi came back to sit on my lap. "Great, I'll send you the link on where you can get your tickets." Her tone suddenly change from an excited into a mischievous one.
"Okay..." I trailed off. I ended the call.
"Luigi, looks like we are going on a trip" As usual he only gave me a snort as a form of his reply.
"Now, what do we eat for today?" I asked the little guy in front me. Like always, he doesn't give a s**t to me. I took out the phone to order some sushi, when the conversation ended. I decided to cook pasta as my main dish, while Luigi gets to eat his favorite meal. I started to prepare the ingredients for my pasta.
5 minutes had flown by: I was already boiling the pasta, and while it was boiling I am chopping up the bacon and garlic. Then I heard the sound of my doorbell ringing, indicating that the delivery guy of the sushi I ordered had arrived. I went towards the door and when I opened it, I flinched when I sensed the person's energy: it was strong, inhumane and filled with the presence of danger. I still accepted the sushi. I observed the guy in front of me, and he was hesitating, what is he hesitating for though?
"Ma'am, I haven't eaten anything yet and I have a little amount of money, to buy food for my family. I kindly ask, if you have some spare change and food that I can bring home?" I felt concerned for him.
"You may come in, I am currently cooking food you can drink water and dine at my table, and I will give you money and food for you to feed to your family." I said, and he looked like he was about to cry.
"You can come in." I opened the door widely for him, signaling to him, that he was welcome to enter my home. He entered with hesitation and kept his head down when he entered my apartment unit. You see this is what I hate about this world. Those who were demanded as a sacrifice by the elites. They mostly fall under the pyramid, equal opportunities are not distributed properly. No matter how hard they would work, they would remain under the pyramid. While those who sit at the top of pyramid enjoys the money that they taxed from the people, and keep it in their pockets.
I insisted that he should sit down and dine with me. While he sat down I continued in cooking the food When I was done I placed the hot food in front of him. He quickly dug the spoon in and started to eat.
"How many children do you have?" I asked, so I know how many packs of food that I could give to him, he looked up at me, and wiped the extra sauce on the side of his lips.
"I have 2 children and a wife, but she is bed-ridden." He said solemnly. I nod and proceeded to pack as much as food as I can to help his family.
"One day I will strive more to make this world a better place for everyone." I whispered to myself, so he couldn't hear what I was saying, but of course his inhumane hearing senses prevented that from happening. He said
"In this world, I am glad that there is still a person like you. Usually some people wouldn't think of doing it because they are not affected, and they don't have to suffer." with a gentle smile displayed on his lips, he said.
"Here is the food, and the money. Is 300$ would be enough?" I asked him with concern laced in my voice. I want to know if this will be enough to help him.
"It is more than enough." With tears cascading down on to his cheeks he smiled and thanked me, I accompanied him until we reached the building's elevator. He thanked me once more and the elevator's door closed. When I got back to my apartment, I looked down from 13th floor window of the building. The delivery guy was going to ride back home to his family with the pack of food that I gave him.
As if he felt someone was watching him, he turned around to find me seeing him off. He smiled and then drove off.
