SURPRISE!

1596 Words
Mayson POV I must be seeing things. I thought to myself as I stood outside the small restaurant looking through the window at Jay smiling at a woman. I guess Emma is just as confused as I am because of the look we gave each other said everything. Emma isn’t a curious person, but me… well, I know for a fact that that isn’t his girlfriend because she is the wrong gender, first of all, and second of all, Jay is already in a relationship with someone… ‘but he doesn’t know that I know. I just happened to see them when I snuck off for the weekend into the woods. ‘Yes, I still let my wolf out and, yes, I still talk to him daily.’ But that doesn’t explain the woman Jay is talking to because I saw him sneaking around with a man whom he shared a tent with in the middle of the woods close to a small river. As I stared at them, I narrowed my eyes and made up my mind. I know Emma won’t like this, but if there is one thing I hate most in this world, it’s a cheater. No matter your gender preferences, a cheater will always be a cheater. I took Emma’s hand and pulled her with me towards the entrance. I could feel Emma’s hesitation, but I wanted to know who that woman was, and I didn’t care that it was none of my business I needed to know. “Mayson.” Emma said, but I shushed her and walked up to the counter where I ordered two Pizza’s and two double cheeseburgers. I took our order number and looked around for an empty table. My eyes landed on the only empty table in this place, and it happened to be right next to Jay’s table. I looked away from the table and looked at Emma and she was completely frozen. I looked at what she was looking at and I saw Jay staring at her with a murderous look in his eyes. Emma tried taking her hand out of mine, but I refused and held on. Jay averted his gaze towards me, and I just kept his stare. If there is one thing that I taught myself these last two years, it is never to be intimidated by someone. Once they see that they affect you, they will always try and intimidate you. ‘Besides, I’m not the guilty one here.’ I kept Jay’s stare until he was the first to look away. I looked at Emma and she seemed to be breathing again. I slowly pulled her towards the empty table, and we sat down. “The food will be ready soon.” I said and she just gave me a small smile. “Emma?” Jay said and Emma snapped her head up towards him. “Hallo.” She said politely, waving at Jay and the woman. I don’t know who the woman is, but she doesn’t look very nice, especially now that her night has been ruined. “What are you doing here?” Jay asked, looking at me. “We came to eat. Mia’s is closed.” I answered in a stern tone yet trying my best to sound friendly. “Okay,” Jay said and looked at the woman, ignoring us completely. I listened in on their conversation until I couldn’t take it anymore. Sometimes you must do what’s right, even if you can risk exposing yourself. I stood up from my chair and it scraped back loudly. “Can I talk to you for a second,” I asked, looking at Jay. “What are you doing?” Emma asked, looking at me with wide eyes. She may be intimidated by him, but I’m not. “Now?” I said in a sterner tone and walked away, not giving him a chance to respond. I walked out of the restaurant not wanting to make a scene inside, yet not wanting everyone to know what I knew. “What is your problem?” Jay asked from behind me. I turned to look at him and just shook my head. He may be taller than me, and he may have bigger muscles than I do, but he doesn’t intimidate me. “I’m going to ask you something and I will only ask this once. I already know the answer, so whether you lie or tell the truth is only up to you.” I said and he took a step closer, crossing his arms over his chest, raising his brow. “How can you be with two genders at once?” I asked and his eyes widened for a split second as he licked his lips and swallowed audibly. “What?” he asked, acting dumb. I let out a humorless chuckle and looked up at him. “I saw you in the woods with a man, yet today you are confessing your love to a woman.” I said and took a step back so I could see Jay’s expression clearly. He looked at me with a shocked expression. I waited a few seconds, and he didn’t say anything. “The one thing I despise more than a liar is a cheater.” I said, making sure he could hear the disgust in my voice. When he still didn’t say anything, I walked past him, bumping my shoulder against his arm hard enough to make him take a sideway step. “Mayson wait.” Jay said, but I ignored him and walked into the restaurant. I walked up to the counter to find out if our order is done and the woman handed me the two bags of food. I didn’t have to call Emma since she was already standing beside me with a worried expression. “ Let’s go home.” I said and she nodded her head without saying anything. As we were walking out, Jay was on his way in. I stopped and stared at him, making sure he knows that I know, and I walked away without saying anything. I hailed a cab, and we went home. Emma didn’t say anything in the cab and she was quiet when we got to her apartment too. She unlocked her door and walked in. I walked in behind her and closed the door. “What was that?” she finally asked, turning to look at me. “What was what?” I asked, setting the food down on the counter. “Between you and Jay. What did that look mean? Is he that angry that we happened to be in the same place as him?” Emma asked and I let out a sigh. “ He’s angry because he got caught.” I said, not really knowing how much Emma knows, and if she knows nothing… well it’s not my place to tell her anything. “What do you mean?” Emma asked, confused. “If you want to know, you should ask him.” I said and walked towards the kitchen. “Are you after Jay?” Emma asked and I coughed, choking on my spit. “What?” I asked, looking at her with wide eyes. “Are you?” Emma asked and I walked towards her, cupping her face. “Emma, I promise you I’m not after your brother. In fact, I’m not after anyone. I didn’t come here looking for a relationship.” I said, trying to make it as clear as possible. “Then why did you look mad when you came back, and why did he look at you like that?” Emma asked, and if the roles were reversed I would want to know too. “I just asked him a question and if you want to know what I asked him, you’ll have to ask him yourself because it’s not my truth to tell.” I said and Emma nodded her head. “You, Mayson Grey, are a very good person,” Emma said, and I let go of her face, chuckling. I gave Emma her food and we sat down in front of the TV and watched a movie while eating. As I ate, I felt Emma staring at me every now and then and caught her staring when I turned my head to look at her. “What?” I asked with a mouth full of fries. “I just don’t get it.” Emma said, and I looked at her, waiting for her to continue speaking. “You eat more than anyone I’ve ever met, yet you don’t pick up any weight. How is that possible?” Emma asked, and I finished chewing before I looked at her seriously. “ It’s called intensive gyming, twice a day.” I said and she didn’t look very amused by my answer. I held my hands up in surrender and took a deep breath, “I just have a faster metabolism and food tolerance than most.” I said and shrugged my shoulders. “I know you are hiding something, Mayson Grey, and I will find out what that is as soon as I finish this delicious food.” Emma said and I turned away, not wanting her to see my expression because I failed to keep the guilt from showing. If things were different, I could’ve taken a chance to tell her who and what I am, but with the danger I’ll be in and the danger I’ll put her in… I’m not willing to take the risk.
