FREEDOM #2

Tylor POV I don’t know why I’ve been feeling guilty since Mayson left. I don’t know why it hurt to watch him go. How I sat looking out my bedroom window hoping that he would come back. How I lay awake at night thinking about him. I don’t know what has gotten into me, but everything we’ve… I’ve done to Mayson makes me sick to my stomach. As I recall everything he’s been through, it’s like tiny silver blades being stabbed through my heart, hurting more and more with every thought. Nothing’s been the same since Mayson left, it’s like the part of me that had always felt warm suddenly became cold and nothing can heat it up except for him. Everything was simpler when we were kids, before we knew the world and the cruelty of it. I remember the games we played and how we were before the accident happened. Ever since Mayson left, I have wanted to go look for him so many times, but every time I think today is the day, I retreat knowing he wouldn’t want to see me even if I do find him. ‘Maybe he doesn’t want to be found.’ I thought to myself as I lay in bed staring at the ceiling. Ever since that day, Josh has refused to talk to me, and he has refused to look at me. Whenever we’re in the same space, he will look down at the ground or past me, but never at me. If I could turn back time, I'd listen to Josh instead of doing what I did, but I can’t turn back time and I can’t take back what has been done. Mason’s screams still linger in the back of my mind, haunting my dreams whenever I close my eyes or fall asleep. I’ve never felt so empty and alone since the day Mayson left and Josh stopped talking to me. It went so far that he refused the Beta position. Karlie is still trying to get my attention even after I’ve turned 18 and told her that she isn’t my mate. If I was her mate she would’ve known because she is older than I am, but she refused to believe it. The day I turned 18, I knew something was missing, yet I never found that missing part. I shifted when I was 15 because I’m an Alpha’s son, but I could only find my mate at the age of 18, but I didn’t. I don’t know if I ever will… I haven’t left my room for a few days, not really feeling up to talk to anyone or pretend that I’m fine. My wolf has been edgy for almost an hour now and it has started to irritate me. I sat up and got off my bed feeling irritated at my wolf and at myself. I paced my room up and down and stopped by the window looking out over the front yard. As I stared out the window at the pups playing in the snow, my eyes landed on someone standing reading something in the middle of the yard. I didn’t move until I saw him looking back and I followed his gaze and saw he was looking at Emily. “Mayson.” I said aloud to myself and didn’t think twice before running out of my room and down the stairs. I pushed everyone out of my way as I ran towards the door. I pulled it open and ran outside where I was hit by the most amazing smell. I sniffed the air and it smelled like mint and musk. I followed the smell and when I opened my eyes, I was standing in front of Mayson… at least I think it was him. He changed. He looked more muscular and tanned. ‘How is that possible?’ I thought as I stared at him, staring at me with wide eyes. I guess he must smell it too, since he’s already 18. “Mate.” I said and took a step closer as he took one back. Seeing him do that made me sad, and it hurt. “This is a joke, right?” Mayson asked, looking at me with wide eyes having no humor in them. “ You’re back.” I said and no matter how much I tried, I couldn’t bring myself to be rude or sound distant and I couldn’t keep the longing out of my voice. “I’m leaving again… for good.” Mayson said, showing no emotion. I looked at him as if he had just told me he had killed a puppy. I stared at him, making the pain I was feeling visible in my eyes, yet it didn’t seem to faze him even one bit. He just kept staring at me with cold eyes and an expressionless face. I took another step closer and yet again he took one back and I just stood there staring at him. My wolf howled in pain because of Mayson’s actions. Before I could take another step forward, Mayson held up his hand, stopping me. When he looked at me, his eyes were colder than I had ever seen before, and every expression was wiped from his face. “I, Mayson Grey, reject you, Alpha Tylor Green, as my mate.” Mayson said, and I felt my heart break into a million tiny pieces as I fell to the ground trying not to scream out as pain filled every part of my body. My breath came in short gasps as I looked at the ground through blurry eyes. I clutched my heart, praying that the pain would go away, but every second felt like hours of torture. When the pain didn’t stop, I forced myself to stand up on shaky legs and looked at Mayson with tears running down my face. “Accept the rejection, Tylor, and you might have a chance to find a second chance mate, or don’t,” Mayson said, shrugging his shoulders like it’s nothing. “What?” I forced out through clenched teeth. “I… don’t… accept… you… as… my… mate…, nor… do… I… want… you… as… my… mate...” Mayson said, spelling out each word as if he was talking to a child. I couldn’t move, couldn’t breathe and I couldn’t think straight. ‘Does he hate me this much that he is willing to reject me?’ I thought to myself as I tried not to scream out as pain filled every fiber of my body. I looked at Mayson standing before me as cold as the day he left. “Why?” I asked, wanting to know. “I’m leaving Tylor and I don’t want anything to do with you or this pack. I came for what I wanted, and nothing will make me stay… not even you.” Mayson said and took a few steps forward, leaning closer to my ear. “Especially you.” He said into my ear and walked away. I stared at his retreating back until he stopped and looked at me, “I reject the pack and everyone in it.” Mayson said and a splitting pain ran through my head, making it clear that a bond had been broken. I wasn’t the only one that felt it because I heard some she wolves screaming, and I heard male wolves groaning as they felt the same pain. “Accept the rejection, Tylor, and move on with your life because I’m moving on with mine.” Mayson said, and he was gone. I tried to ignore the pain and ran after him, but it was like he was never even there. I couldn’t see him, hear him, nor did he leave a scent behind. I ran through the forest not knowing where I was going or what I was looking for. All I know is, I have just lost the one thing that would’ve meant everything to me, and the worst part is, even through the pain I’m feeling… the pain he caused, I can’t blame him. because if this had happened a year earlier, I would’ve done the exact same thing, but what hurts the most is that he would rather choose to be a rogue and face the danger alone than stay in our pack. After what felt like hours, I finally stopped running and realized no matter how fast I ran, Mayson didn’t want to be found nor followed. I turned back and ran home. As I walked through the trees, I stared at everyone who is staring at me, and only then did I realize that they knew I'd been rejected… everyone knows I’ve lost my mate and that I’m the reason he left. “Tylor!” my mother yelled as she ran towards me holding a towel. She handed me the towel and I wrapped it around me. I looked at my mother with tears in my eyes, feeling as though my whole world just came crushing down and I have no one to blame, but myself. “I’m sorry.” I said, forcing out the words as my mother threw her arms around me, pulling me into a hug. I let go of my restraints and cried, letting out all the pain I was feeling. “it’s okay. You’ll be okay.” My mother said and I lifted my head and looked at her, “this is your fault for allowing us to do to him what we did, for never stopping us, for never interfering. As the Luna you should’ve done something, anything!” I yelled, letting go of her and stepped back. “You were old enough to know what is right and what is wrong, Tylor. You didn’t need me to tell you what you’re doing is wrong. You could’ve stopped at any time, but you didn’t. You lost your mate because of your own doings, not ours. And yes, as Luna, I could’ve done something, but as the future Alpha, I hoped you would know the difference between right and wrong.” My mother said and I stared at her dumbfounded. I opened and closed my mouth a few times, not really knowing what to say. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, clearing my head. If Mayson wants freedom, then I will give it to him. He deserves a better life. “I Tylor Green Alpha of The Blue Shadow pack, accept your rejection, Mayson Grey.” I said and felt as the bond severed completely. I turned to look at my mother through teary eyes and knew that I have nothing left to lose. I looked at her and took a step back. “I Tylor Green renounce my position as the Alpha of The Blue Shadow pack.” I said, staring at my mother who is staring at me with wide eyes. “What are you doing?” she asked, stepping closer. “Doing what I think is best. An Alpha can’t be an Alpha without his Luna and I lost mine due to my own actions and I disappointed you and everyone in this pack. Therefore, I will not lead a pack, making them think that power gives you the right to do what you want.” I said as my mother and everyone around us just stared at me open-mouthed. “Whoever wants to challenge me for the Alpha position will be allowed to do so. It’s a fight to the death and no rules apply. No one outside the ring will be allowed to interfere, nor are they allowed to call off the challenge.” I said and heard the gasps of every wolf surrounding us as I took off the towel and shifted back into my wolf. I have officially announced a challenge to anyone who thinks they are strong enough to take the Alpha position from me. ‘I hope you can find the happiness and peace you deserve, Mayson, and I’m sorry for everything I’ve done and how I’ve hurt you. I hope that one day you can find it within yourself to forgive me.’ I sent a silent thought into the universe and got ready as a chocolate brown wolf stepped in front of me with its teeth bared and saliva dripping from its mouth.
