Another Ordinary Day

It's so early in the morning, yet the sound of my alarm vibrating on my bedside table and the constant knocking on my bedroom door refused to let me sleep. "Ellie, wake up now. You have school," my yaya called from outside. Yaya has been taking care of me since I was a baby. She's more than just our housemaid—she's family. I'm so close to her, and honestly, I can't imagine my life without her. "Ellie," she called again. "Wake up." "I'm still sleepy," I mumbled, burying my face in my pillow. "Five more minutes, Yaya." She laughed softly. "Okay, five minutes. But after that, straight to the shower, okay?" "Okay..." Five minutes later, Yaya came back and successfully dragged me out of bed. After taking a shower, I went through my usual morning routine before putting on my school uniform—a fitted white blouse, my skirt, my school ID, and my favourite pair of white sneakers. When I walked downstairs, the smell of freshly cooked breakfast filled the mansion. "Ellie, come eat first," Yaya said with a warm smile. I nodded and sat at the long dining table. Just like every morning... I was eating alone. I sighed as I stared at the empty seats surrounding me. It had become such a normal part of my life that I barely questioned it anymore. Yaya noticed the look on my face. "Don't be sad, hija," she said gently. "Your mommy and daddy are coming home tonight from New York." My eyes immediately lit up. "Really?" She nodded. "Yes. They called earlier." A smile slowly appeared on my face. I had missed them. My older brother was also out of the country on a business trip, while my sister had been busy with company meetings. Speaking of my sister... I heard footsteps coming down the stairs. Eloise Lauren Santiago. She walked into the dining room, grabbed a slice of bread, and poured herself a cup of coffee. When she noticed me, she stopped and looked straight into my eyes. I frowned. Usually, whenever she looked at me, her eyes were full of annoyance. But today... They looked different. Almost... worried. When I stood up and grabbed my bag, she finally spoke. "Take care." I blinked in surprise. "What?" "I said... take care." For a few seconds, I just stared at her. That was probably the nicest thing she had ever said to me. I smiled anyway. "Bye, Ate." I gave her a quick beso before leaving the house. Outside, Mang Tony was already waiting for me. "Good morning, Miss Elizabeth." "Good morning, Mang Tony." The drive to school wasn't long. As soon as we arrived, Mang Tony got out and opened the car door for me. The moment I stepped out, I heard a familiar voice. "Ellie!" I turned around and smiled. "Ericka!" My best friend waved excitedly before running toward me. "Good morning!" "Morning." The two of us walked through the campus together, chatting about random things. Despite coming from wealthy families, everyone at our school acted like normal students. Almost every student came from a well-known business family, so no one really cared about showing off. Thankfully, I've never been bullied. Well... Except for one person. Olivia. I honestly don't know why she dislikes me so much. Maybe it's because the guy she likes happens to like me instead. His name is Sebastian Xavier Valdez. But everyone called him Seb and im the only one call him Xav. "Morning, Ellie," Xav greeted with his usual smile as he walked over to us. He's been courting me since Grade 10 and even followed me to the same senior high school. We're both in the ABM strand. I haven't given him an answer yet. Maybe after we graduate from Grade 12... Maybe then, I'll finally tell him how I feel. With that thought in mind, Xav joined Ericka and me as we walked toward our classroom, laughing and talking while our classmates filled the hallways with cheerful conversations. A few minutes later, our teacher walked in, and another day of lessons began. To be honest, my life wasn't exciting. It was the same routine every single day. Wake up. Go to school. Go home. Repeat. Some people would probably dream of living my life. A wealthy family. A beautiful home. Everything I could ever ask for. And maybe they were right. Because despite the loneliness that came with it... I still believed I was living the perfect life. At least... That's what I thought.
