NARRATOR'S POV Realm of Selene ( Inhabited by the Moon Goddess and the Wolf Spirits) No concept of time. (2096 in the Human World - 14 Years before present Day ) Rex couldn't help himself and was staring at his 'second in command', something he always called Mel to piss her off. She was his equal, both of them generals in the Army. Two generals were not common but, as they were evenly matched in skill and experience, they had both been appointed to the position. They were perfect together on the battlefield, in planning strategies, but that's where it all ended. Outside of that, they could not stand each other. He was the bane of Mel's existence as she was his, but no one could point out where exactly their rivalry had begun. Now he looked at her decked in her armor, ready to train the new recruits and he couldn't help but admire her. She looked beautiful, he may not have liked her, which was debatable, but he had eyes. She was the most beautiful spirit among all the female spirits he had ever set his eyes on, that said something, as he had seen thousands of them, and had they been on better terms he would have tried to court her. They were perfect for each other, but she did not share in that sentiment. Mel could feel the stare on her back and she could tell whose eyes those were. She would have gouged them out a long time ago, but the Moon Goddess would not appreciate her dismembering one of her best warriors. She did not turn her head to meet the eyes but left for the training grounds where she still felt the eyes trained on her. The training had been amazing, as usual, as she had prided herself as a great teacher and the eager students also fueled the satisfaction. Like always, her day did not end without a visit to the temple to pray. As she made her way towards the altar, the unmistakable voice of Rex from the shadows halted her steps, '' I would also pray for those students if I had you for a teacher,'' he mocked. As always, he was going to be the one to ruin her day. " What do you mean by that?'' she asked, halting in her movements. " We both know I am the better one between the two of us.I should be in charge of training,'' he replied cockily. She felt exhausted, that again? She had a competitive streak as well, but all Rex did was always undermine her skill and belittle her and she felt all the years of repressed rage bubble within her. In the years they had known each other, they had never, not even once, had a civil conversation. They had always bickered, but they never had a real fight. They had never been together alone long enough for that. Now it was just the two of them, no distractions and no one to hold them back, so it was just a matter of time until things finally escalated between them. Anger pulls the worst out of people and that day was the final nail in the coffin. Mel’s eyes met Rex’s, the wolf staring at her with so much joy and confidence. Full of pride after obviously getting under her skin and a smile creeping at the edges of his mouth. That was the catalyst for her actions. Mel shifted first, jumping forward, armor ripping apart in the air. Her huge paws shook the ground and she felt her senses sharpen, her whole body on the highest alert. Without wasting another second, she immediately ran towards Rex, her canines ready to bite the other wolf's skin. A look of surprise had passed through Rex's face before he dodged to the side and shifted while rolling on the ground missing the deadly blow. Rex's wolf was slightly bigger than Mel's, with white fur and golden eyes. Mel set back her ears close to her head, barring her canines towards Rex. Now there was no going back anymore. The two wolves ran towards each other, canines crashing, tasting blood on their tongues, deafening growls ripping through the cold air. It didn’t take more than five minutes and the ground underneath them was already stained with blood, Rex’s white fur turning pink due to his bleeding wounds. He had been fending off Mel's attacks, not attacking her, but the look in her eyes was enough for him to know if he did not start fighting back, she was going to kill him. The two wolves soon began attacking each other, claws and canines here and there, both of them eager to take the other down. That was what Mel had been waiting for for so long, a fight against the one alpha she despised the most. Finally, she could prove herself as the better one between the two of them and forever shut the other one up. Allowing the years of pent-up anger to consume her, she charged on. Rex lay on his back, his white fur red with blood, Mel’s paw resting on his shoulder, her snout close to his neck. He felt spent, some of his bones were broken with no more fight in him. He had no idea how long they had been fighting but he knew he was about to meet his end. His pleas and shouts and even from those around them had not broken through to Mel. All he could think of was that he owed her an apology before he breathed his last. " Rex and Mel are hereby exiled from the Spirit World. As punishment, they will now live in the mortal world.'' The Moon Goddess' voice echoed through the temple and broke through Mel's haze while gasps echoed through the temple. As Mel floated away, she looked at the completely destroyed temple full of regret and shame. How had it come to this? Not only had she been demoted, but she was also cast out. She hoped to never meet Rex in the mortal world. Mel had disliked him before but now she loathed everything about his existence.
