We traveled in the night, a haze of red all around, dulling the green of the grass, the bright colors of the wildflowers the horse trampled on, and the blue of the ponds we came across. I don’t think I’ve ever hated a color more. Red is thought to be a color of passion, fiery emotion, and hot anger. Perhaps that was what I felt as the heat grew inside my chest.
