The hallways were lit by the candles hanging in the sconces, casting shadows of my body along the walls as I walked past. The air was somehow charged with a certain energy that I could not place. I wonder if the anticipation growing in me had anything to do with it. I followed the torches as Ava instructed, they lined the walls, some lit at each turn. The atmosphere suddenly shifted, and I knew that I was close to the dining hall, the cool air I felt was replaced with a buzzing electricity that shook me to my core. The king was just beyond these doors, I was sure of it. The doors in front me were a dark brown, the intricate patterns that lined all the others present in the wood.
