My paws landed on the soft earth, sinking into the soil. I basked in the moonlight, feeling the dim light brighten my aura even more. I had never felt more at peace than I did at this moment, on Lunaris soil under the black moon. It felt like I had been created for. Moments such as this, and my potential suddenly didn't feel so far out of reach.
From the side of my eye, Elena groaned once more, her head looking to the side as she drifted unconscious.
I moved over to her, nudging her face with my snout. When she didn’t move again, I faced the moon in anger. The first howl felt like it was being ripped out of my throat, my pain and desperation poured out into every decibel.
